Additional practice day added
The grip of one of the worse winters on record has played havoc on area race tracks and Lehighton’s Mahoning Valley Speedway has not been spared.
Because the grounds are not at 100% due to lingering snow and the thawing ground, it was decided to call off the first Test and Tune day this coming Saturday, March 22.
Promoter Floyd Santee had been closely monitoring the condition of the speedway grounds and as of late Monday he felt it would be wise to simply hold off one more week before opening the gates for preseason Test and Tune.
Because of the setback Santee has added March 30 to allow teams the provided track time in order to prepare for the season opening night on Saturday, April 12.
The new Test and Tune schedule will now be this coming Saturday and Sunday, March 29-30 and Saturday and Sunday, April 5-6. Both Saturday track times will be from noon to 4:00 p.m. while Sunday activity goes from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m.
Grandstand admission is free on all Test and Tune days. Pit entrance is $10 per person.
Any race team that wishes to have the same pit parking spot from the previous year is reminded that March 30 will be the final day to reserve and pay for the space, afterwards it will be first come first serve.
The 2014 Opening Night is set for April 12 at 6:00 pm and will have four extra distance/extra paying features. The Modifieds will race for 100 laps and $4000 to win, a 50 lap, $1200 to win main event for Late Models, a $1000 first place prize to win the 40 lap Dirt Mod feature and $1000 for the Street Stocks which will compete in a 50-lapper plus regular features for the Pro 4s and Hobby Stocks.
