The American Three Quarter Midget Racing Association (ATQMRA) is set to kick off on its 58th season of TQ Midget car racing with the first main event of 2014 taking place at Lehighton’s Mahoning Valley Speedway paved ¼-mile oval on Saturday evening April 19.

Mahoning Valley is considered one of the fastest tracks that the TQ’s race on as speeds exceed 100 mph and hold the record as the quickest cars to ever record a lap there when Matt Roselli circled the speedway in 8.825-seconds on September 29, 2012 at better than 101-mph.

The season opening Mahoning race will also serve as the first in the “Triple Crown” events. New for 2014, a special three-race series of features will be held starting at Mahoning Valley then onto Bethel Motor Speedway in White Lake, NY and conclude at Oswego Speedway’s inner oval as part of the Bud Light Classic Weekend on August 30.

Aside from the regular feature earnings, there is an additional $1500 that will be divided among all race teams who partake in all three Triple Crown races.

The TQ’s of the ATQMRA have a long and rich history of winged and non-winged racing that stretches across five decades. The club will hit tracks throughout New York, Pennsylvania and New Jersey this season and with the add-on incentive of the Triple Crown it is a great enhancement to an already solid product.

Ryan Tidman and the Boyd Racing Team captured their third consecutive ATQMRA championship last year and are set for another title run starting with the April 19 lid-lifter at Mahoning Valley. Matt Janisch beat Tidman in last year’s opener at Mahoning.

They will have plenty to deal with as with the likes of Roselli, Buddy Sload and Mahoning’s own multi-time champion Earl Paules, Jr. Tidman and Roselli are the active leading winners at Mahoning with five victories each. Race time is at 6:00 p.m.
