Wall Stadium’s Speedway’s third mile high banked paved oval speedway will host action on both Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon this weekend as the Memorial Day holiday is celebrated. Saturday evening auto racing starts at 6:00 p.m. while Sunday’s thrill show/auto racing card gets a 1:00 p.m. start.

On Saturday the Downs Ford Modifieds return to action with two main events on tap. First up at 6:00 p.m. the Downs Ford Modifieds will compete in the final 23 circuits of a 40-lapper rain postponed from May 3. Once that race is complete the Modifieds will then prepare for their first ever 40-lap “Cone Race” to be contested later in the evening.

A “cone race” offers added excitement on every restart of an event.

Here’s how a “cone race” works. A traffic cone is placed on the backstretch at the one-to-go sign for a restart. Any driver can choose to go inside the cone or outside the cone. If the first four drivers choose the inside, for example, the fifth place driver can choose outside and move up to the front row.

Does a driver take the preferred inside groove and restart further back on the inside, or does he or she choose the shorter line of cars on the outside and hope he or she can make it stick? That’s the issue each driver will face on each restart.

Also in action on Saturday night will be the Limited Late Models, Legend Cars and the visiting Microstocks sponsored by Brian Hamer of Hamer Heating and Cooling.

Pit gates will open at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday; with practice starting at 3:00 p.m. Grandstands will open at 5:00 p.m. and the first Modified main is then set for 6:00 p.m. with regularly scheduled qualifying and main events for all divisions to follow. The speedway will honor veterans and active military with free admission on Saturday night.

On Sunday afternoon the oval presents the Red, White and Bluedozer afternoon of thrills. A $1,500 to win Demolition Derby will headline the program, which will also include a Stunt Show, Quad Show, 50-lappers for the Factory Stocks and the 4 Cylinder Stocks and a Ladies’ race.

On Sunday the competitor pit area and grandstand seating will open at 11:00 a.m. with Monster Truck rides then offered at 11:30 a.m. The Red, White and Bluedozer afternoon of thrills starts at 1:00 p.m.

Wall Stadium presents professional motorsports events on Saturdays and Sundays through September with special post-season races in October and November. The speedway is located on Route 34 in Wall Township, N.J., just one mile north of Garden State Parkway exit 98 and Interstate 195 exit 35B. The speedway hotline number is 732-681-6400, while CKMotorsports@aol.com is the track’s email address. More information is also available at www.wallspeedwayracing.com.
