It only takes a moment for an entire night to change at Bowman Gray Stadium as fortunes reverse at breakneck speed. And that was the case on Saturday for both 25-lappers in the Brad’s Golf Cars
Modified Series.

Jason Myers of Walnut Cove started out on a high note by qualifying on the pole, barely beating the time of brother Burt Myers. “I knew it was a decent lap when I ran it, but you’re just not sure how good,” said Jason.

When the green flag fell, Burt Myers pushed hard on the outside trying to edge around Jason. The #4 car of Jason maintained his inside position but seemed to occasionally slip. For nearly two laps, the two battled side-by-side.

But Jason’s night changed in the blink of an eye as he made contact with Burt, sending Jason spinning into the infield. “Trying to beat Burt, I overdrove it. I was either going to spin out overdriving it or get beat. And I didn’t come to get beat –
I beat myself,” said Jason.

Burt Myers secured the lead at that point and held off Tim Brown of Tobaccoville to grab the checkered flag. Yet, Myers’s third victory of the season was bittersweet for him. “I wanted to win but I wanted Jason to finish second – especially on a
double points night,” said Burt. “On the other hand, we had a good night. We got our third win – to do that this early in the season is pretty satisfying.”

“I’d rather finish second to Jason than for me to intentionally get into him and cause a problem,” said Burt. “I hope everyone understands that at the end of the day it was two guys on the ragged edge racing as hard as they could to win - and
they just happened to be brothers.”

Tim Brown finished second, with Lee Jeffreys taking third.

Fortunes also changed quickly for Junior Miller of Danbury, who finished 16th in the first race but was sent to the pole by the “Madhouse Scramble” for the start of the second race. Miller shot out into the lead and cruised to his 72nd
Modified victory at the Stadium.

“I thought we were a dead duck the first race. We didn’t run that well but ended up in the right spot,” said Miller. “I knew if I had a good start that we had a good race car – I didn’t have any problem. It was the easiest race I’ve run in a long
time.”

Miller holds the record for most all-time Modified wins at the Stadium but had been uncharacteristically absent from Winner’s Circle recently. Saturday was Miller’s first win in nearly five years.

“I think we finally got the monkey off our back,” said Miller. “We were leading a race last year and got spun - it’s just bad luck. But luck turns around, and maybe I’ll win three or four this year.”

Finishing behind Miller in second was Mike Bohn of Winston-Salem. Spencer Davis of Dawsonville, GA came in third.

Saturday was the longest and most prestigious race of the season for the Double D Construction Services Sportsman Series – the Whelen Sportsman 100. Derek Stoltz of Walkertown qualified on the pole, fought his way into the lead, and then
claimed the checkered in dominant fashion.

But Stoltz was disqualified after post-race technical inspections. Ryan Robertson of Winston-Salem, who finished right behind Stoltz, was declared the winner. Taylor Branch of Lewisville was awarded second.

John McNeal of Winston-Salem won the 20-lapper for the Q104.1 New Country Street Stock Series, with Chase Hunt of Lexington and David Sumner of Trinity finishing second and third.

In the Traffic Control Safety Services Stadium Stock Series, Chuck Wall of Lexington and Daniel Yates of Lexington each grabbed the checkered in a 15-lapper.
