It’s no secret that when Northampton’s Matt Hirschman comes through the pit gate at any given asphalt racetrack, he’s a favorite to take the win in the Modified division. It’s also a fact that Hirschman enjoys running the “big” shows with hopes of winning the “big money”. There was no exception on Sunday at Evergreen Raceway Park and Hirschman came out with hopes of winning the $3,000 prize in round no. one of the “Poker Series” event. With nine laps complete, he took the lead from Shawna Ingraham and then took the checkers and victory in the 75-main event. Continuing in his winning ways, Randy Schlenker of Whitehall got by Matt Wentz and then cruised to his third straight Street Stock feature win of the season and Ricky Yetter drove off from the Dirt Modified field to notch his second win of the year. Scott Adams of Lake Ariel notched his first FWD Four Cylinder victory of the year and with his second place finish overall, Nick Baer of New Tripoli was awarded the RWD Four Cylinder victory.

After winning one of the three heat races and then redrawing the pole, Ingraham led the Modified field to the drop of the green flag. She led the opening lap over Jonathon Mandato, Chris Young, Hirschman and Todd Baer. Following a quick yellow flag in the early going, Hirschman climbed into the second spot. Shortly after, he moved into the number one slot with nine laps complete.

With a four-tire rule in effect for the show, many drivers just rode for the first half of the show, including Hirschman, who always seemed to have a one-car advantage over the driver that trailed him. When the flags were crossed to signal halfway, Hirschman continued to show the way over Young, Baer, Eric Mauriello and Ingraham.

The event heated up in the second half and several drivers began to flex muscle, including Brian DeFebo, who cracked the top five and then took third from Baer on lap 63. However, his great run o the front was short-lived and he was forced to pit for leaking fluid under a lap 65 caution period.

With the green flag back out, Hirschman remained on point and closed out the event with his twentieth overall win at the speedway. Mauriello, Baer, Ingraham and Young completed the top five.

Heat race victories went to Shawna Ingraham, Jonathon Mandato and Chris Young.

After picking up the Street Stock heat race win, Robert Fink led the Street Stock field to the drop of the green flag in the 35-lap feature. However, Matt Wentz grabbed the top spot before a lap was complete. Fink dropped back to second, followed by Randy Schlenker, Rich Emel and Bernie Uphold.

Schlenker worked on Fink for second and with 18 laps complete he took the spot and then set his sights on the leader. With 24 laps in the books, Schlenker overtook Wentz and shortly after Wentz’s day came to an end when he slowed and pulled to the infield.

In dominating fashion, Schlenker went on to take his third straight win of the season over Emel, who finished a career best second. Fink, Uphold and Aaron Higgins completed the top five.

Mark Levy led the Dirt Modifieds to the drop of the green flag in the 25-lap contest but after a lap was complete Ricky Yetter overtook him for the top spot.

Yetter began to check out from the field as Chuck Potts and Levy battled for second.

Yetter, who was also the heat race winner, crossed the stripe to collect his second win in three starts and Levy edged Potts for second.

Bob Azarowicz led the Four Cylinder field to the drop of the green flag in the 20-lap feature, but Ray Fennell III led the first lap over Azarowicz, Heather fennel, Nick Baer and Ron Heeter.

With two laps complete Scott Adams climbed to fifth and the he worked by Baer and H. Fennell to take third on lap five. Shortly after he overtook Azarowicz for second and then grabbed the lead from R. Fennell on lap8.

Adams stayed out front and went on to take the checkers over Baer in the caution-free event. Baer was awarded the RWD Four Cylinder victory.

H. Fennell finished second in the FWD cars, followed by Azarowicz, R. Fennell and Anthony Pugliese.

Scott Adams and Bob Azarowicz were heat race winners.
