Although Burt Myers of Walnut Cove managed to keep his lead in the Brad’s Golf Cars Modified Series, it was a disastrous night for the points leaders in other divisions. Wrecks and mechanical issues plagued them all – and the timing couldn’t have been worse with Saturday at Bowman Gray Stadium being a Double Points Night.

Burt Myers and Jason Myers tangled for the lead in Saturday’s first Modified 25-lapper. Jason’s season went up in a cloud of dirt as he slid onto the infield after making contact with Burt. Jason Myers finished 17th and 16th in the two races, dropping him from third in the points down to eighth.

“Trying to beat Burt, I overdrove it. I was either going to spin out overdriving it or get beat,” said Jason Myers. “It really bites to come over here, sit on the pole, finish pretty much last in both races, and completely knock ourselves out of the points race, but I can’t be mad at anyone else.”

Older brother Burt Myers went on to take the checkered in the first race and finish 15th in the second race, maintaining his points lead. Chris Fleming of Mount Airy was the big points winner on Saturday. With the Modified twin 25s awarding points based on highest average finish, Chris’s fourth and tenth place finish earned him the maximum amount of points. Fleming moves up to second in the Modified rankings.

In the Double D Construction Services Sportsman Series, Derek Stoltz of Walkertown had what first appeared to be an outstanding night – but it ended up taking a quick turn for the worst. Stoltz qualified on the pole, led almost every lap, and grabbed the checkered in Saturday’s annual Sportsman 100 – the longest race of the year for the Sportsman cars. Stoltz entered the event ranked first in the points and was set to dramatically extend his lead.

But Stoltz failed a post-race technical inspection, resulting in his disqualification. Now instead of a strong points lead, Stoltz dropped down to 14th in the points.

Ryan Robertson of Winston-Salem, who finished right behind Stoltz in the 100-lapper, was declared to be the winner. Robertson moves up to take over the points lead in Stoltz’s absence. Taylor Branch of Lewisville slides up to second in the points.

John McNeal of Winston-Salem wins again in the Q104.1 New Country Street Stock Series, boosting him up to second in the points. Brian Wall of Winston-Salem, who entered the event with the points lead, was involved in a collision and suffered from a flat tire which forced him to pit. Wall falls to fifth in the points. David Sumner of Trinity takes over the points lead.

In the Traffic Control Safety Services Stadium Stock Series, A.J. Sanders of Mocksville takes a huge hit in the points. Sanders entered the event with a perfect record of two wins out of two races – and, of course, a commanding points lead as a result. But a collision on Saturday relegated him to finishing in almost last place. Sanders falls to 12th in the points.

Daniel Yates of Lexington and Chuck Wall of Lexington both took the checkered, moving them both up to tie for the points lead.

The season marches on with another opportunity to gain or lose points this weekend – it’s a two-day show at Bowman Gray Stadium.

On Friday, it’s the Camping World 100 for the Modifieds, with racing for the Sportsman, Street Stock, and Stadium Stock Divisions. And adult admission is only eight dollars.

Then on Saturday, it’s Two Dollar Ladies’ Night. Women get in for only two dollars to see the NASCAR Hall of Fame 150 for the K&N Pro Series East and another 100-lapper for the Modifieds.

Gates open at 6:00 for practice, and the first race begins at 8:00 PM – this Friday and Saturday night. Directions, and more information can be found online at www.bowmangrayracing.com or by calling (336) 723-1819.
