In what has become one of the highlight events each season at Lehighton’s Mahoning Valley Speedway, Baltimore Life Insurance Fan Appreciation Night takes place this coming Saturday evening, June 7.

Last year over 2000 people packed the track as they took advantage of the $8 general admission and partook in a fun filled night of racing and loads of activities.

And they also saw some great short track stock car racing with a special guest in attendance. Ricky Stenhouse, Jr., who drives the No. 17 Ford for Roush/Fenway Racing on the NASCAR Sprint Cup circuit, ran in the Modified feature with a car prepared by Earl Paules. Stenhouse also brought along his girlfriend who just happens to be Danica Patrick.

But those are the types of surprises you can expect when the NASCAR racers are in town that same weekend at nearby Pocono Raceway for the Pocono 400 that takes place on Sunday, June 8.

The upcoming night is already taking shape with a bevy of activity planned. Baltimore Life Insurance will be handing out all kinds of goodies and will also be doing free child IDs.

Tracy Berger-Carmen will be doing a book signing of her Nazareth Speedway Images of Sport book.

Out front on display will be a pair of hillclimb racer cars to promote the Weatherly Hillclimb that takes place on June 15.

And then there is the much anticipated intermission that really is the focal point of the evening. Every race car will come out onto the track and drivers will have a meet and greet with fans. Autograph signing, more giveaways and picture taking galore are the order of business. Over 100 race cars where on the track last year for this very special night.

And there just may be a surprise NASCAR personality or two stopping by from Pocono.

There is the matter of racing too. A full slate of heats and features for the Modifieds, Late Models, Street Stocks, Dirt Mods, Pro 4s and Hobby Stocks along with the Micro Stock Racing Series will make for a great night and all at a bargain price of just $8.

There are no discounts for this event.

Pit gates open at noon. There will be early paid practice from 1:00 to 3:00. Regular warm-ups will be held from 4:00 – 5:00. Grandstands open at 4:00 and racing starts at 6:00.

Coming up on Saturday, June 14 the Dirt Mods will be racing in a special 50 lap $1200-to-win feature.

Also the “Mid-Summer Thunder…Where The Dirt Stars Meet The Asphalt” show is beginning to take shape. A star-studded list of the region’s leading dirt Modified, Late Model and Sprint racers will be at Mahoning on Sunday, June 29 racing the USAC sanctioned Tobias SpeedSTRs and vying for $3000. The All Star Slingshots are also on the card as well as the Stage 1 Modifieds, Micro Stocks, Sr. and Jr. Champ Karts and the Vintage Division of the ATQMRA.

Mahoning Valley Speedway is located on PA route 443, two miles west of Lehighton. Additional info can be found on the track’s website at www.mahoningvalley-speedway.com Also on Facebook at Mahoning Valley Speedway.
