Young Trevor Alspach fought off countless challenges on Saturday night to win his first ever Downs Ford Modified stock car main event at Wall Stadium Speedway. The Willingboro resident, in just his first full season of Modified racing, is a former multi-time winner and driving champion in the Legend Cars division.

Countless caution flags for mostly minor incidents gave a host of competitors a shot at muscling away the lead. First his brother Zack Alspach, also in his first full year of Modified competition, took several shots at the leader before defending champion Chas Okerson of Freehold took several turns at trying to steal away the top spot. Soon Freehold’s Steven Reed moved into contention to try to take over the lead before Zack Alspach and Okerson took another set of turns of trying to race past Trevor Alspach. Late in the race Howell’s Eric Mauriello became the challenger before Trevor Alspach raced to the win.

Mauriello, Okerson, Brick’s Shawna Ingraham and Jason Treat of Jackson completed the top five.

“I would have really been happy if there were no more restarts after the ninth lap,” Trevor Alspach said of the race. “My brother drove me hard early. After that they just kept coming. I’m just happy that my car was fast so I could handle them.”

The Sportsman cars ran two 25-lap feature races. In the first race Kenny Van Wickle of Manasquan fought off Howell’s Chris Lane in the early going before racing to his first win of the year. While Lane faded Howell’s Kevin Davison raced home second, with Parlin’s Larry Thompson, Andrew Krause of Holmdel and Joey King of Galloway wrapping up the top five.

In the second Sportsman 25-lap race Krause came back to take his second win of the year with Lane, Brick’s Dominic Fattarusso, Ken Matlach of New Hyde Park, N.Y, and Van Wickle finishing second through fifth.

Lady racer Tiffany Olejnik took her first trip to the winner’s circle by winning the 25-lapper for the Factory Stocks holding off recent champions Ronnie Mullen of Brick and Scott Riggleman of Manchester. Union’s Joey Helberg and Jamesburg’s Whitey Miller were fourth and fifth. Olejnik had won twice before but never visited the winner’s after those victories when the first place drivers failed post-race inspection.

James Meyers of Port Monmouth tracked down early leader Alonzo Morales to win the 25-lapper for the 4 Cylinder Stocks. Morales, Wall’s Cole Ormsbee, Mike Wahl of East Islip, N.Y. and Howell’s Ron Becker wrapped up the top five.

Mike Tillett of Bayville held his ground the entire 25-lap distance to win his first Limited Late Model feature of the year. Jackson’s Howie Conk and Brian Doyle of Ronkonkoma, N.Y., both recent champions, were second and third, while Anthony Crimaldi of Port Monmouth and Beachwood’s Bill Vanderveen were fourth and fifth.

Wall Stadium roars back to action this Saturday night (June 13). NAPA Auto Parts Night will feature the Modifieds in a 40-lapper, the 4 Cylinder Stocks in Twin 25-lap mains and the Sportsman, Factory Stocks and Legend Cars in 25-lap main events. As a part of “Father’s Day Weekend” dads attending the events will receive a free gift and a special 15-lap “Mechanics’ Race” will be contested.

Pit area parking opens at 1:00 p.m. with practice set for 3:00 p.m. Grandstand seating opens at 5:00 p.m., qualifying is set for 6:00 p.m. with main events to follow.
