It’s Mahoning Valley Speedway Night this coming Wednesday, June 11 at the www.JeffreyHogueRealtor.com Action Track USA in Kutztown.
In a special joint promotion with the two facilities, all fans who attended this past Saturday night’s races at Mahoning Valley and show their grandstand wrist band will receive a $2 off admission into races at Kutztown. Grandstand gates open at 5:00pm. The Mad Scramble for the wingless 600 Micro sprints gets the show underway at 6:15 and qualifying heats begin at 6:55 which include a full program of USAC Championship SpeedSTRs, NAPA Auto Parts All Star Slingshots and the Pioneer Pole Building 600cc Wingless Micro Sprints.
Likewise all fans from Wednesday’s races will get to enjoy the same discount this Saturday evening, June 14 at Mahoning Valley as the paved Lehighton quarter mile oval will serve as the host. A six division show will be held that includes Modifieds, Late Models, Street Stocks, Pro 4s, Hobby Stocks and Dirt Mods which will run in a special 50 lap feature. Racing starts at 6:00pm.
The coming together of the two tracks is all in anticipation of the “Mid-Summer Thunder! Where Dirt Stars Meet The Asphalt” show slated for Sunday, June 29 at Mahoning Valley Speedway.
The special event will feature the first ever appearance at Mahoning with the Sunoco USAC Championship SpeedSTRs along with the National Slingshot All Star Tour, Junior National Slingshot Tour, Stage One Modifieds, Micro Stock Racing Series, Champ Karts, Junior Sportsman Champ Karts and the Vintage Division of the ATQMRA.
Courtney Harrison, host of Inside Track on WNEP-TV 16, the ABC affiliate in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, has been named Grand Marshall of the event.
“The Mid-Summer Thunder! Where Dirt Stars Meet The Asphalt” was conceived by Mahoning Valley race director Tim Santee and SpeedSTR and Slingshot creator Rich Tobias while at Motorsports 2013. There they shared booth space near one another and Santee approached Tobias on possibly bringing his cars to Mahoning. After the race season concluded both parties met and laid the ground work for the special show.
“It’s pretty exciting. The Santee’s are great people doing great things at Mahoning Valley and this is something that is exciting, fresh and new,” said Tobias, promoter at The Action Track.
“We had Kenny Brightbill out there to do a SpeedSTR test back in December, a dirt track guy sliding around that place was neat. I’m sure they’ll take a little bit to get figured out and once they do it will be some awesome racing here.
“We’re also happy to say that Super Modified standout Otto Sitterly will be coming down from Oswego to run that show. You’ll have Bill Pauch Sr., and Jr., Rick Eckert, Brian Montieth, Jeff Strunk, Frank Cozze, Ryan Godown and a whole gaggle of them. It’s going to be a great historic event at Mahoning Valley on June 29.”
Aside from those aforementioned stars, some of Mahoning’s top aces will also be in action both this Wednesday and on June 29. Earl Paules has been racing each week at Kutztown with his SpeedSTR. Defending Modified track champion Eric Beers will also be in a SpeedSTR for the Wednesday show as will Kevin Graver, Jr.
There will also be several Mahoning race cars on display Wednesday evening including the Modifieds of Chip Santee and Kris Graver, the Late Model of Paules, the Dirt Mods of Graver and Ray Deemer and the Pro 4 of Kailyn Beers.
Mahoning Valley Speedway has also set a special Test and Tune day for the SpeedSTRs and Slingshots on Sunday, June 22 from 12:30 to 3:30. It will be $25 per car to test. There are no other fees and grandstands are free.
