The Dirt Mods at Mahoning Valley Speedway are often considered one of the most exciting classes to watch. Thanks to an all dirt track set-up, including dirt tires and then letting them cut loose on the paved quarter mile oval, it is a unique style of short track racing like no other.

The class, now in its sixth season, will take the spotlight this Saturday evening, June 14 with a 50 lap, $1200-to-win main event.
And considering how competitive the 2014 season has been, with six different winners in the first seven events, it would come as no surprise to see race winner number seven emerge.

Kevin Graver, Jr., who drives the Kovatch Ford No. 454, is the point leader and only two time winner. Defending champion Jeff Parker and past champ Kris Graver have also won. There have also been three first time winners including the past two weeks with Billy Lowden, Jr., and Ray Deemer along with upstart Jack Ely on April 26.

Taking into consideration the potential drivers who have yet to see the checkered flag first, which includes Ricky Yetter, Mike Stofflet, Aleia Geisler and JP Curry, it has all the makings a great race.

Modifieds, Late Models, Street Stocks, Pro 4s and Hobby Stocks are also on the card plus there will be a Kids Banner Contest. The 4c Super Mods, originally on the schedule for this night, has been cancelled, that announcement coming from the club.

Mahoning Valley will also be playing host this Saturday to the JeffreyHogueRealtor.com Action Track USA in Kutztown. It is part of a cross promotion effort between the two speedways. Mahoning Valley is preparing for the “Mid-Summer Thunder! Where Dirt Stars Meet The Asphalt” show slated for Sunday, June 29.

The special event will feature the first ever appearance at Mahoning with the Sunoco USAC Championship SpeedSTRs along with the National Slingshot All Star Tour, Junior National Slingshot Tour, Stage One Modifieds, Micro Stock Racing Series, World Formula Micro Stocks, Champ Karts, Junior Sportsman Champ Karts and the Vintage Division of the ATQMRA.

The SpeedSTRs and Slingshots race each Wednesday night at the Action Track and when they come to Mahoning there will be a star-studded field including some of the most prominent names in regional dirt track racing.

Courtney Harrison, host of Inside Track on WNEP-TV 16, the ABC affiliate in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, has been named Grand Marshall of the event.

This Saturday’s race meet gets underway at 6:00pm. Pit gates open at noon. There will be early paid practice from 1:00 to 3:00. Regular warm-ups will be held from 4:00 – 5:00. Adult general admission is $15. $2.00 off for students, seniors 65 + and active military, must have ID. Children 10 and under are free.

Mahoning Valley Speedway is located on PA route 443, two miles west of Lehighton. Additional info can be found on the track’s website at www.mahoningvalley-speedway.com Also on Facebook at Mahoning Valley Speedway.
