In most divisions at Bowman Gray Stadium, the points leaders maintained their position after Saturday night’s racing. But little by little their challengers are grinding forward, steadily moving closer to overtaking the points leaders.

Burt Myers of Walnut Cove lost only two points to Tim Brown of Tobaccoville in the Brad’s Golf Cars Modified Series, leaving Myers with a healthy 34 point lead. Myers has managed to be consistent and avoid bad luck, while it seems that everyone else has encountered some misfortune.

Just one week earlier when Myers spun out Junior Miller of Danbury to take the lead, Tim Brown was caught up in the wreckage. Brown would have finished second but instead dropped down to 10th – a difference of 16 points.

Chris Fleming of Mount Airy drops down from third in the points to fourth, while John Smith of Mount Airy climbs up from fifth to third.

In the Double D Construction Services Sportsman Series, Ryan Robertson of Winston-Salem won the first 20-lapper and finished eighth in the second race, keeping him in the points lead. However, Taylor Branch of Lewisville was able to turn in a third and a fifth place finish, giving him a one-point gain on Robertson. Branch now sits only nine points behind Robertson.

David Sumner of Trinity was involved in a collision in Saturday’s race for the Q104.1 New Country Street Stock Series, relegating him to a 12th place finish. Sumner was still able to stay in the top spot in the rankings but his lead is slashed.

His primary challenger, John McNeal of Winston-Salem, finished seventh – good enough to reduce Sumner’s lead to only two points. Doug Wall of Pfafftown finished fourth, moving him into a strong third place ranking – just 18 points from the top.

Saturday was the annual 50-lapper for the Traffic Control Safety Services Stadium Stock Series, and A.J. Sanders of Mocksville turned in a dominant performance. He qualified on the pole and grabbed the checkered flag to leap up from 12th in the points standings to sixth.

Chuck Wall of Lexington and Daniel Yates of Lexington both entered Saturday’s race tied for the points lead. But Wall collided with Jason Keaton and then the guardrail, giving him a 22nd place finish. Daniel Yates had his fair share of bad luck but still managed an 11th place finish – allowing him to claim the points lead for himself. Chris Allison of Mocksville moves up to second place – just six points behind Yates.

The racing action will rage on this Saturday at the Stadium – it’s $2 Ladies’ Night, where all women get in for only two dollars to see all the racing action. The Modifieds battle in a 100-lapper, with racing for the Sportsman, Street Stock, and Stadium Stock Divisions.

Gates open at 6:00 for practice, and the first race begins at 8:00 PM – this Saturday night. Directions, and more information can be found online at www.bowmangrayracing.com or by calling (336) 723-1819.
