Tim Brown of Tobaccoville is breathing a little easier at Bowman Gray Stadium – especially after getting the proverbial monkey off his back. Brown claimed the checkered in the Brad’s Golf Cars Modified Series, breaking the winless steak that has haunted his season.

The nine-time champion not only holds the record for most Modified titles, but he’s also closing in on breaking the record for most Modified wins. He’s been a fixture in Victory Lane for the last decade with dozens of poles, hundreds of laps led – and just about every other distinction you can earn at the Stadium.

But uncharacteristically for the #83 team, Tim Brown was winless for nearly the first half of the 2014 season. “We’ve had a fast car for most of the season. It just hasn’t gone our way a lot,” said Brown. “As far as speed, we’ve had the speed all year. We’ve got as many poles as anybody.”

And that speed was on display again as Brown turned the fastest lap in qualifying sessions, putting him on the pole and raising the hopes of his fans that this would be his chance to get his machine back in Winner’s Circle. Danny Bohn of Huntersville started on the outside front row, with Defending Champ Burt Myers of Walnut Cove starting third.

During the opening start, Myers kept to the inside to pass by Bohn and take over second place. Then the #1 car of Myers began to give shot after shot to the rear bumper of Brown. “My car was tight right in the middle so I was backing the corner up which was letting him get in there and hit me - but that’s part of racing over here,” said Brown. “He’d run in there, hit me, and turn me sideways, but we’d just stand on the gas and drive away.”

After 25 nail-biting laps, Brown took the checkered flag with Myers finishing behind him in second. “We finally got this team, this car, and all my fans back in Victory Lane - and that’s what it’s all about,” said Brown. “All that matters and all that I care about is I won.”

Danny Bohn took third, with Jason Myers of Walnut Cove coming in fourth.

In the Double D Construction Services Sportsman Series, Derek Stoltz of Walkertown brought home the win in the first Sportsman race. Taylor Branch of Lewisville finishes second, with Michael Adams of Yadkinville in third.

Zack Clifton of Walkertown started on the pole for the second race and successfully held off the challenges from Ryan Robertson of Winston-Salem for most of the race. But as they headed towards the white flag, Robertson moved past Clifton to steal the lead away.

Clifton immediately moved to the inside to nudge Robertson’s bumper, sending Robertson spinning. Clifton went on to take the win. Wayne Hill of Winston-Salem finished in second.

A.J. Sanders of Mocksville charged through the field yet again to take another checkered in the Traffic Control Safety Services Stadium Stock Series – his fifth win of the season.

The remaining races were cancelled due to inclement weather.
