Just days after announcing that Evergreen Raceway Park has committed to host its weekly card of racing on Friday nights through the end of August, car counts began to improve. Not only did the counts improve, but the action did as well, as fans witnessed door-to-door action in all of the five divisions that competed that evening.

Friday, June 27 is destined to be no different, as many of the drivers in their respective divisions are as equally matched in talent and power. For the first time this season one driver visited victory lane twice. That driver is Austin Kochenash, who plans on calling the speedway his home track when he’s not competing on the Race of Champions tour. Other Modified winners this season include Todd Baer, Jim Bojohnny, Matt Hirschman, Donny Hartzell and Brian Sones.

After Chip Wanamaker earned the opening day Street Stock victory, Randy Schlenker pulled off an amazing five straight feature wins until getting knocked off last week by last years track champion, Kevin Higgins.

With the largest fields all season long, the Four Cylinders have put on amazing shows, many of which have had three wide battles for the lead, lap after lap. John Banashefski pulled off four wins this season and Scott Adams, Frank Hughes, Jr. and Harry O’Neill have one win apiece. Heather Fennell, who has scored several second place efforts, leads the standings in the class.

The INEX Legends have been put back on the schedule and track management has high expectations for the division to take back off and gain popularity and momentum to make it what it once was at the third mile asphalt oval. The most recent winner was Mitch Dowd, who scored his first win at the speedway in his first start of the season.

The Pure Stocks haven’t disappointed, as both Matt Mattern, Jr. and Tom Cassagrande each have three wins to their credit. One other winner this season was Stephanie Moyer, who is also a hometown second-generation racer.

The next event at Evergreen Raceway Park, “KME Employee Appreciation Night” is slated for Friday, June 27. The Modifieds, Street Stocks, Pure Stocks, Four Cylinders and INEX Legends are on the card. All KME employees will be admitted for free with their company I.D. In celebration of the upcoming Independence Day holiday, a firework display is scheduled for after the night of racing.

The pit gates will open at 6 PM and practice is slated to begin at 7:15. Heat races will kick off at 8 PM.

Pit Admission at the track is $25 (With Pit License) and $35 without. It is NOT required to purchase a season pit license to compete. As always, grandstand Admission is $12 for adults and children 12 & under are admitted for free.

Evergreen Raceway Park is just minutes from Hazleton, Pa, located on St. John’s Road, between Routes 93 and 309. For more information, including upcoming shows, rules, payouts and news, please visit www.evergreenracewaypark.com.
