Now that Tim Brown has broken the seal at Bowman Gray Stadium, the victories are flowing in. After a disappointing and winless first half of the season, Brown finally grabbed the checkered last week – and turned right around to win again on Saturday.

Jason Myers turned the fastest lap for the Brad’s Golf Cars Modified Series and started on the pole with Tim Brown starting on the outside front row. “Qualifying’s the easy part tonight. Now you’ve got to beat Tim off the front row,” Jason Myers before the race began.

Myers was right about that first start being crucial. Brown shot out ahead of Myers, almost clearing him by the time the two entered turn one. Myers gave a shot to the rear bumper of Brown, which turned the #83 of Brown sideways.

As Brown tried to avoid spinning, he collided with Myers – sending the #4 of Myers into the guardrail. The impact straightened Brown’s car, allowing him to take over the lead.

“I hate what happened with Jason. I wouldn’t wreck him intentionally,” said Brown about the incident. “He got into me and turned me sideways. I stood on the gas trying to save it and got back into him. That’s part of racing.”

Brown held on to the lead to take the checkered flag for the second week in a row. Danny Bohn of Huntersville finished second, with Tony Black of Lexington finishing in third.

The “Madhouse Scramble” sent Mike Bohn of Winston-Salem to the pole for the start of the second race. Danny Propst of Waxhaw started on the outside front row. Bohn secured the lead early in the race and held off Randy Butner of Pfafftown to grab the checkered.

The win was Bohn’s first ever at the Madhouse, making him the 129th winner of a featured event in the 66-year history of Bowman Gray Stadium. His name is added to the legendary list of winners that includes such icons as Junior Johnson, Glen Wood, Ralph Earnhardt, and Richard Petty.

“It’s probably one of the biggest moments of my racing career,” said Bohn about the victory. “Even before I moved to North Carolina, Bowman Gray was the big thing down here. I finally had a chance to race this year at Bowman Gray - I was just happy to be racing here. And now to get into Victory Lane - it’s an unbelievable feeling.”

Randy Butner finished behind Bohn in second place. Lee Jeffreys of Winston-Salem came in third.

In the Double D Construction Services Sportsman Series, Saturday’s 60-lapper was an aggressive and wreck-filled race which left most of the cars unable to finish on the lead lap.

Justin Taylor of King led the first lap but was quickly overtaken on the first double-file restart by an outside row challenge from Scott Hall of Winston-Salem. Hall then had to defend his lead by holding off the advances of Michael Tilley of Winston-Salem and Derek Stoltz of Walkertown.

Stoltz, although normally a fierce competitor in the division, encountered mechanical problems and began to fall back through the field. As he came on the verge of being lapped by Hall, Stoltz pushed hard to remain on the lead lap. Meanwhile, Hall was battling with Michael Adams of Yadkinville for the lead.

As Adams and Hall approached the slowing car of Stoltz, a collision occurred – sending Hall and Stoltz spinning, with Michael Adams leaping into the lead. Under caution, Stoltz and Hall expressed their displeasure at each other by colliding again and again.

When the race resumed, Adams rode ahead of the field while fierce racing raged behind him. He went on to take the checkered. Wayne Hill of Winston-Salem and Robbie Brewer of Winston-Salem finished second and third.

Derrick Rice of Kernersville won the 20-lapper for the Q104.1 New Country Street Stock Series. John McNeal of Winston-Salem finished second but was later disqualified after failing post-race technical inspection. David Sumner of Trinity was declared the second place finisher.

In the Traffic Control Safety Services Stadium Stock Series, Shane Southard of Yadkinville won the “A” race. Ted Mickalowski of Mocksville won the “B” race.
