It’s been a month since the Late Model division has been on the card of events at Evergreen Raceway Park. Considered to be a fan favorite, the division’s car counts have steadily declined in the last few years, not just at Evergreen, but also elsewhere. However, the staff and select racers at Evergreen have not lost faith in the division and have rally together to help bring the class back and in turn full fendered Friday night racing was born. Not only will the Late Models be back on the schedule for those select nights of competition, but they will also be the headlining division, and grandstand admission for the night of August 1st has been reduced to only $5!

With the help from last seasons Late Model champion, Mitch Hawk, Evergreen is determined to bring the division back to where is should be. Hawk has been working closely with Track Manager, Ron Babula and they have exciting information to share about out the class following their meetings.

It’s simple. Their initial goal is to attract more Late Models to the track and then grow from there. Is it possible? Both Hawk and Babula believe so and based from the schedule and payout adjustments, it’s enticing to racers who compete in the division.

The Late Models are on the schedule for one week in July and then for two weeks in August. They will be the headlining division ton those nights, as the Modified division will be off. To track management it makes perfect sense because the Modifieds have big weekends of racing elsewhere on those select weekends. Evergreen officials admit that this should have been looked into thoroughly prior to the start of the season, but it’s all part of their inaugural year at the speedway. They realize that people must learn from mistakes and the first eight weeks of the season has been a school of sorts for them.

One of the Late Model changes is tires. They will switch to the Hoosier F40 left and F48 right sides. This will be open for one race then must be on branded Evergreen tire for the following races.

Any Late Model drivers who are interested in competing are asked to contact Evergreen management by emailing Ron Babula at rbabula37@hotmail.com or Mike Schadder at mschadder71@gmail.com. This will help officials by having an estimate on how many cars will be there for event planning purposes. As previously mentioned, Mitch Hawk has agreed to be the Late Model spokesman. His email contact Hawklms17@hotmail.com.

The division payout has also been adjusted and even with a minimal amount of cars, the winner will take home $700, with $450 being paid out for second. The entire payout is available by clicking the “payouts” link on the track website.

As always, the Evergreen Raceway Rulebook is strictly enforced for all divisions.

Evergreen believes that they have addressed most of the concerns that they’ve heard and have done everything that they could possibly do to bring the Late Model class back. As always, your feedback is important and they look forward in moving the class forward in the future. It’s a great class so let’s work together and get it going. The next Late Model event is scheduled for July 18 during the first “Full Fendered Friday”.

Furthermore, the racing schedule has been set for the remainder of July through the end of August. The schedule for the remainder of the season, from September through October will be posted by mid August.

Pit Admission at the track is $25 (With Pit License) and $35 without. It is NOT required to purchase a season pit license to compete. As always, regular grandstand admission is only $10. Children 12 years of age an younger are admitted into the grandstands for free.

Evergreen Raceway Park is just minutes from Hazleton, Pa, located on St. John’s Road, between Routes 93 and 309. For more information, including upcoming shows, rules, payouts and news, please visit www.evergreenracewaypark.com.
