The July heat combined with a full moon to fan the racing flames at Bowman Gray Stadium. Dean Ward’s season heated up with a victory, while an old rivalry has been reignited between
Junior Miller and Burt Myers.

The starting lineup for the O’Reilly Auto Parts 100 for the Brad’s Golf Cars Modified Series was determined by random draw, with Brody Jones of Statesville drawing the pole and Lee Jeffreys of Wallburg starting on the outside front
row.
Jeffreys claimed an early lead as he tangled with Jones, but Jeffreys was soon tested with a double-file restart just a few laps into the race. Dean Ward of Winston-Salem moved to the outside to steal the lead away from Jeffreys.
“I don’t know what happened with Lee. I don’t know if he spun the tires or what,” said Dean Ward about grabbing the lead. “We got a good bite getting up off the corner, my spotter yelled ‘clear,’ and I said ‘Okay!’”
Ward then had to defend the lead against several challenges from Lee Jeffreys, Tim Brown of Tobaccoville, Danny Bohn of Mooresville, and Jason Myers of Walnut Cove. Ward says his car wasn’t in prime condition but it was good
enough to get the job done. “I knocked the mirror out of the way and just tried to focus on what I was doing. I just tried to hit my marks and run my line,” said Ward.
“I’ll be honest with you – we’ve had a lot of bad luck. But the Lord blessed us tonight,” said Ward. “We blew a motor the first race and tore the clip off in the second race. Then we knocked the right front wheel off the next week.”
“I pulled out on the track not really knowing what I had,” said Ward. “But I about learned my lesson over here – don’t give the bottom up when it’s three to go.”
Ward grabbed the checkered with Jason Myers taking second and Tim Brown finishing in third.
But while Ward was standing strong in the lead, another battle raged between Defending Champion Burt Myers of Walnut Cove and Junior Miller of Danbury. The two giants of racing each have a vast collection of victories, poles, and
championships in their years at the Stadium. They also have a rivalry as fierce and deep as any.
Their feud, which had died down in recent years, was set off once again when Myers bumped Miller out of the lead earlier in the season. The rivalry is now officially in full swing after Saturday: Myers and Miller tangled towards the end
of the race as Miller fell off the pace and Myers gave him a stout tap.

In the Double D Construction Services Sportsman Series, John Holleman of Winston-Salem took his first win ever in a Sportsman car. Zack

Ore of Winston-Salem finished in second. Michael Tilley of Winston-Salem won the second 20-
lapper, while Ryan Robertson of Winston-Salem finished right behind him.

Darren Cotner of King brought home the victory in the Q104.1 New Country Street Stock Series race. Austin Edwards of Winston-Salem came in second.

In the Traffic Control Safety Services Stadium Stock Series, Jason Keaton of Mocksville and Andy Southern of Winston-Salem each claimed victory in a 15-lapper.
