Lehighton’s Mahoning Valley Speedway just completed its 12th week of racing at the popular paved quarter mile oval last weekend and is ready to roll on for part two of the 2014 season this coming Saturday evening, July 19 with a five division show of stock car racing plus the American Three Quarter Midget Racing Association TQ Midgets. Race time is 6:00 pm.

Heading into the second half of the year, Kris Graver has just taken over as the Modified point leader thanks to his third consecutive week of winning. Graver is the fourth different driver to lead the points, showcasing just how competitive the headline division is at Mahoning. As one of the region’s highest paying pavement short tracks, it’s no wonder that such a high caliber of talent shows up to each week.
The Modifieds will run in a 35 lap main event.

Earl Paules continues to top the Late Models thanks in part to five wins and eight straight top two feature finishes. Last week Frankie Althouse beat Paules and is nipping at his heels in the standings. Late Models race for 25 laps on Saturday.

In the Street Stocks former two-time champion TJ Gursky has been holding steady at number one despite not winning, yet. Keeping close to him is Jillian Long who is also winless although each of them has been very consistent and very close to getting a checkered flag. This week’s Street Stock contest will be 30 laps. Close to 30 cars have been signing in each week.

The Dirt Mod division has seen Kevin Graver Jr., at the front since week two. He has won three times and is maintaining a decent gap over Ricky Yetter. There have been eight different winners thus far and one more would tie the record for most in a single season. Dirt Mods will face off for 25 laps.

Nick Baer has been smooth, fast and steady all season and in doing so continues to build on his class point lead with the Pro 4s. Last week he notched his fifth win in 12 starts. He’ll have to wait an extra week to try for number six as the division has off this week.

Harry O’Neill became the second straight first time Hobby Stock winner a week ago. However, in the points there is Cory Edelman who is focusing on repeating as champion. The race distance for this division will be 20 laps.

In place of the Pro 4s will be the ATQMRA TQ Midgets, Mahoning’s fastest recorded cars. 100 mph speeds are commonplace for these winged open cockpit speed demons. Their 25 lap feature can be run off in a few minutes while all the while passing and close action is taking place.

Pit gates open at noon. There will be early paid practice from 1:00 to 3:00. Regular warm-ups will be held from 4:00 – 5:00. Adult general admission is $12.

Mahoning Valley Speedway is located on PA route 443, two miles west of Lehighton. Additional info can be found on the track’s website at www.mahoningvalley-speedway.com Also on Facebook at Mahoning Valley Speedway.

Coming up in two weeks, On July 26, will be a 100 lap, $3500 to win feature for the Modifieds.
