When Burt Myers of Walnut Cove pulled into Bowman Gray Stadium on Saturday, he pulled in as the points leader in the Brad’s Golf Cars Modified Series. But he also knew he might be entering a firestorm of revenge from Junior Miller of Danbury.

Earlier in the season, Myers bumped Miller out of the lead – reigniting a long-standing rivalry between the two competitors. With Saturday being a Double Points Night, many suspected that Miller would use that opportunity to get even.

The two drew starting positions close to each other in the O’Reilly Auto Parts 100 and bumped occasionally as they battled their way forward to the front. Myers worked his way up through the field, while Miller experienced some car troubles.

“We had to put a rack on that night - we had to qualify with no power steering,” said Miller, whose night just got worse as he bashed fenders several times with other competitors during the race.

Towards the end of the race, Miller began to slow. Some believe he was waiting for Myers to lap him in order to take revenge. Miller says his car was just in need of some repair. “We just had a rough night all night, and the car gave up. I was looking to get down pit road,” said Miller.

As Myers approached Miller, he gave a stout tap to the bumper of Miller, which sent him spinning. “Junior waited on me, so I played defense,” said Myers, who suspected that Miller would give him trouble on a Double Points Night.

“Junior told everybody he was going to do it - and he waited on me. He couldn’t catch me – he’s a second slower than I was,” said Myers. “I guess that’s the only way he can get any TV time is to run into Burt Myers. He’s made a living out of it.”

Junior Miller, still reeling from when Myers bumped him out of the lead weeks ago, says that he and Myers are far from finished. “He came up there and crashed with me again. If he wants to crash with me, we’ll crash,” said Miller.

The incident left Myers with a flat tire and a 13th place finish, dropping him out of the points lead. Tim Brown of Tobaccoville finished third, boosting him into the points lead. Brown moves from 21 points under Myers to 19 points
ahead of him.

In the Double D Construction Services Sportsman Series, Ryan Robertson of Winston-Salem hangs on to the points lead. He stays even with Taylor Branch of Lewisville in second.

David Sumner of Trinity entered Saturday leading the points for the Q104.1 New Country Street Stock Series but had some bad luck which relegated him to an 11th place finish. Rookie Chase Hunt of Lexington finished eighth – good enough to move him into the points lead.

And in the Traffic Control Safety Services Stadium Stock Series, Chris Allison of Mocksville spun in last event – dropping him from the points lead down to third. Chuck Wall of Lexington is boosted to the top of the points standings, with A.J. Sanders of Mocksville just two points behind him in second.

Another wild night of mayhem is scheduled for this Saturday night – it’s the Great Clips Night of Destruction presented by 600 WSJS. There will be a Monster Truck Car Crushing Exhibition, a bone-jarring 109 U-Pull-It Demolition Derby – and of course racing for the Modifieds, Sportsman, Street Stock, and Stadium Stock Divisions.

Gates open at 6:00 for practice, and the first race begins at 8:00 PM – this Saturday night. Directions, and more information can be found online at www.bowmangrayracing.com or by calling (336) 723-1819.
