The fun of the 1950’s and the excitement of today’s stock car racing competition will be in the spotlight this Saturday night at Wall Stadium Speedway. Five stock car divisions will compete in six main events plus qualifying while the decade of the 1950’s will be celebrated with music of the times, a Hula Hoop contest for the fans and many of the vintage racecars of the Garden State Vintage Stock Car Club. Grandstand seating will open at 5:00 p.m. and qualifying is set for 5:45 p.m. Main event racing will follow.

The Factory Stocks fill the spotlight with two 25-lap main events, one regularly scheduled and one being made up from a rain postponement earlier in the season. Defending champion Ronnie Mullen of Brick and former champion Scott Riggleman of Manchester along with lady racer Tiffany Olejnik of Wall, veteran Whitey Miller of Jamesburg, Marty Van Druten and Josh Matthews, both of Toms River and Joey Helberg of Union are expected to be among those seeing action.

The Downs Ford Modified Modified 40-lap main event is important in the race for the 2014 driving crown. Recent “Garden State Classic” champion Trevor Alspach of Willingboro is on a hot streak with two wins, but he’ll see plenty of competition from Andrew Krause of Holmdel, Zack Alspach of Willingboro, Jason Hearne of New Egypt, Eric Mauriello of Howell, Steven Reed of Jackson, Chas Okerson of Freehold, Shaun Carrig of Little Falls and Shawna Ingraham of Brick, just to name a few.

Also on the card will be the Sportsman cars, the 4 Cylinder Stock division and the Legend Cars in a special 40-lapper.

Pit gates will open at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday; with practice starting at 3:00 p.m. Grandstands will open at 5:00 p.m. and qualifying will start at 5:45 p.m. Main events for all divisions are scheduled for 7:15 p.m.

While racing continues every Saturday night through the end of September, a couple of special contests are on the horizon. On Saturday night August 2 the Downs Ford Modifieds will battle in the 100-lap “Summer Sizzler” which offers $5,000 to the winner.
