The cars and stars of the Sportsman division will take center stage at Wall Stadium Speedway this Saturday night (July 26) in a 50-lap championship race which will be of major importance in the race for the season-long driving title. The touring TQ Midgets will also be on the card as will be the Vintage TQ Midgets, Limited Late Model, Factory Stock and 4 Cylinder Stock racers. Grandstand seating will open at 5:00 p.m. and qualifying is set for 5:45 p.m. Main event racing will follow.

Sportsman racers expected to compete include Andrew Krause of Holmdel, Robert Sutphin of Brick, Kenny Van Wickle of Manasquan, Ken Matlach of New Hyde Park, N.Y., Matt Langbein of Laurence Harbor and recent winner Larry Thompson of Parlin. Howell’s Kevin Davison, Dominic Fattaruso of Brick and Rob Silver of Wall are also expected to see action.

Country Night, with fans encouraged to wear their favorite country attire, will also see the Three Quarter Midgets invade the speedway for the annual running of the “Tony Romit Memorial.”

Also on the card will be the Limited Late Models, Factory Stocks, 4 Cylinder Stocks and the Vintage TQ Midgets.

Pit gates will open at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday; with practice starting at 3:00 p.m. Grandstands will open at 5:00 p.m. and qualifying will start at 5:45 p.m. Main events for all divisions are scheduled for 7:15 p.m. As a part of Country Night, popular country music, both old and new, will be playing over the public address system all evening long and several fans will win tickets to the Outlaws concert at the Starland Ballroom in Sayreville on August 8.

The speedway will also be busy on Sunday, as the “Small Car Series” will see action starting at 11:00 a.m.

While racing continues every Saturday night through the end of September, a special event is on the horizon. On Saturday night August 2 the Downs Ford Modifieds return to battle in the 100-lap “Summer Sizzler” which offers $5,000 to the winner. With a generous purse being offered, a large field of Downs Ford Modifieds is expected to compete.

Wall Stadium presents professional motorsports events on Saturdays and Sundays during the summer months. The speedway is located on Route 34 in Wall Township, N.J., just one mile north of Garden State Parkway exit 98 and Interstate 195 exit 35B.
