A few weeks ago, Jason Myers of Walnut Cove had given up on the points race in the Brad’s Golf Cars Modified Series. Now he’s one point away from the lead and may be on the way to claiming his first championship.

On the May 24 Double Points Night, Jason Myers took a hit in the points after wrecking when he fought with his brother for the race lead. Multiple wrecks on June 28th took him down a rung on the ladder as well.

But Myers’s season has also been punctuated by plenty of strong performances. He ties Tim Brown of Tobaccoville for the most poles (four) and ties older brother Burt Myers of Walnut Cove for the most wins (four).

Lacking consistency, however, Jason Myers thought the points championship was out of reach. That was until Tim Brown and Burt Myers were penalized for their on-track demolition derby during a caution flag.

“That’s how Bowman Gray works. One week you’re at the bottom and the next week you’re at the top,” said Jason Myers. “You can’t really control circumstances that happen over here. We’ve sat on the pole for two 25-lap races and wrecked in both of them. You got to have a little luck over here, too.”

Myers qualified on the pole on Saturday and claimed the victory for the first 50-lapper. It seemed then like Myers’s luck had run out during the second race after he was involved in a wreck – but he fought forward to grab a fifth place finish.

The effort moves Myers up to just one point out of the lead – a position Myers is hoping to improve on. “I finished second in the points the last two years over here and second’s not any fun,” said Myers.

Lee Jeffreys of Wallburg finished eighth and second to keep a slim points lead. Danny Bohn of Huntersville maintains third in the points but loses ground after dealing with some mechanical issues in Saturday’s second Modified race.

In the Double D Construction Services Sportsman Series, Ryan Robertson of Winston-Salem hangs on to the points lead. Michael Adams of Yadkinville won to move a little closer to second-place-ranked Taylor Branch of Lewisville.

Trinity resident David Sumner’s second place finish in the Q104.1 New Country Street Stock Series race moves him back into the points lead. Chase Hunt of Lexington drops to second but is still just four points behind Sumner.

In the Traffic Control Safety Services Stadium Stock Series, Chuck Wall of Lexington stays in the points lead – but A.J. Sanders of Mocksville and Chris Allison of Mocksville gain some ground on him.

The points battles rage on this weekend – with two days of racing action. On Friday, it’s Racing Electronics Night, with twin 50s for the Brad’s Golf Cars Modified Series and racing for the Stadium Stocks, Legends, Bandoleros, and Classic Modifieds. And adult admission is discounted to just five dollars.

Then on Saturday, it’s the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour battling in the Strutmasters.com 199. Also on the schedule is racing for the Sportsman, Street Stock, and Stadium Stock Divisions. Adult admission for this special event is only $12.

Gates open at 6:00 for practice, and the first race begins at 8:00 PM – this Saturday night. Directions, and more information can be found online at www.bowmangrayracing.com or by calling (336) 723-1819.
