This Saturday, August 9th, Chemung Speedrome hosts their second event on the Sunoco Race of Champions Asphalt Modified tour. Chemung was the setting for the first race on the 2014 schedule, an event won by Matt Hirschman. That also marked the first of three consecutive wins for the Northampton, PA racer, who has been winless since the May 24th race at Oswego Speedway.

Due to the full schedule, and the time restrictions for campers returning to Watkins Glen International, the entire program is being moved up. Pit gates will open at 3 PM, with grandstand gates and practice getting underway at 4:45 PM. The first heat race will hit the track at 6 PM. RoC officials plan on running the Modified 100 no later than 9 PM.

The action-packed evening will include a 100-lap feature race for the ROC Modified Tour along with 40 laps for the Sunoco Modifieds, 25 laps for the Super Stocks, 20 laps for the Four Cylinders and 20 laps for the INEX Legends. Pit fees are$35 for weekly member – NASCAR, RoC or INEX and $40 for non-members.

Grandstand admission is $22 for adults; $18 for seniors ages 65 and older; $10 for youths ages 11 to 16; $5 for kids ages 6-10; and free for kids ages 5 and under.

This is one show the kids will want to attend. The RoC has included Kids Box Car Races! To make a box car the kids just have to paint a cardboard box to resemble his or her favorite race car, and then get ready to race. These will be foot races with the kids sporting the boxes, so they are encouraged to wear their fastest sneakers!

RoC Modified drivers will help officiate and vote on the best appearing cars. Prizes will be awarded to the winners, including Best NASCAR replica, Best Modified replica, and Best Chemung Speedrome replica. Anyone with questions can contact Lori Overdorf via the Race of Champions Facebook page.
