Wall Stadium Speedway’s most successful drivers, those who have won five or more driving titles since the facility opened in 1950, will be honored this Saturday night (Aug. 9) as the third-mile paved oval presents “Salute to the Champions Night.” While past accomplishments will be noted, present day action will be presented as the Downs Ford Modifieds, Sportsman, Factory Stock, Limited Late Model and Lady Racers will take to the speedway in regular distance main events. Grandstand seating will open at 5:00 p.m., with qualifying set to begin at 5:45 p.m. and main event action set for 7:15 p.m.

On Saturday, all 5-time or more driving champions will be honored. Eight-time Modified champions Gil Hearne, 6-time Modified champ Tony Siscone, 3-time Modified and 6-time Pro Stock champ Chas Okerson and 6-time Modified champ Dave Michel say they will be on hand. Also planning to attend is 5-time Street Stock champion Rich Mongeau and 5-time Sportsman champ Kevin Eyres.

Two of the speedway’s late all-time champions, 1953 Modified champ and 5-time Sportsman champ Parker Bohn and 6-time Pro Stock champ Ray Gastelu, will also be honored with family members in attendance. A meet and greet autograph session and a “Parade of Champions” are planned.

In addition to meeting many of these great drivers, fans will get to see an original Dale Earnhardt, Sr. driven No. 3 that he drove during the 1997 and 1998 seasons and the beautifully restored racecars of the Garden State Vintage Stock Car Club will also be on track and on display.

Many of the most talented Downs Ford Modified stock car drivers of today are expected to compete on this special night.

Among the field of the speedway’s present day best are recent Garden State Classic champion Trevor Alspach of Willingboro, Andrew Krause of Holmdel, Zack Alspach of Willingboro, Eric Mauriello of Howell, Brick’s Shawna Ingraham, Adam LaCicero of Lavallette, Steven Reed of Jackson New Egypt’s Jason Hearne and Okerson.

Pit gates will open at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday; with practice starting at 3:00 p.m. Grandstands will open at 5:00 p.m. and qualifying will start at 5:45 p.m. Main events for all divisions are scheduled for 7:15 p.m.

The speedway will also be busy on Sunday, as the “Small Car Series” will see action starting at 11:00 a.m.
