Adam LaCicero of Lavallette and Eric Mauriello of Howell shared center stage at Wall Stadium on Saturday night as each grabbed a victory in “Twin 35” lap races for the Downs Ford Modified stock cars. For LaCicero it was the first win of the year while Mauriello tasted victory for the second time this season.

In the first Modified 35-lap race Shaun Carrig of Little Falls was the first leader but he spun from the top spot in the fourth turn on the fifth lap. LaCicero was right there to take up the top spot and he fought off the challenges of Jackson’s Steven Reed to the checker flag. Two cautions on the closing laps gave Reed the opportunity to wrestle away the lead but LaCicero was up to the challenge. Zack Alspach of Willingboro, Glenn Slocum, Jr. of Navesink and Jackson’s Jason Treat wrapped up the top five.

“This car was on rails tonight,” LaCicero Said after the win. “I think it was the best it has been all season.”

In the Modified nightcap Treat and Alspach battled for the top spot early before Mauriello moved into contention. When Treat slowed and dropped to the infield with four laps down Mauriello charged to the lead and was never headed. Alspach was the runner up when the 35-lap distance was complete, while Homdel’s Andrew Krause, Carrig and point leader Chas Okerson of Freehold were third through fifth.

“The car was real good in the second race,” Mauriello said in the winner’s circle. “It was better in this race than it was in the first one.”

The Limited Late Models also did double duty Saturday with defending champion Brian Doyle of Ronkonkoma sweeping to victory in both. Nick Shaw of Chatham was Doyle’s biggest competition as he was the runner-up in both races. Ronnie Mullen of Brick, Beachwood’s Bill Vanderveen and point leader Mike Tillett of Bayville were second through fifth in the first 25-lapper while Daryn Miller, Glen Conk and Marc Rogers completed the top five in the second race.

Kenny Van Wickle of Manasquan raced to his third win of the year in the 30-lapper for the Sportsman cars grabbing the lead on lap nine with an inside lane pass. Holmdel’s Andrew Krause made it close in the final laps before settling for second, with Brick’s Robert Sutphin, point leader Kevin Davison of Howell and Ken Matlach of New Hyde Park, N.Y. rounding out the top five.

Shanon Mongeau won a wrestling match with teammates Cole Ormsbee and James Myers to win the 25-lap 4 Cylinder Stock feature race. Alonzo Morales and Mike Wahl were fourth and fifth.

Wall Stadium returns to action this Saturday night (August 30) with the Modifieds in a double point 40-lap main event. The Factory Stocks will compete in “Twin 25” lap races, while the Legend Cars, 4 Cylinder Stocks and the Sunday Series Champ Karts will also be on the slate.

Pit area parking opens at 1:00 p.m. this Saturday with practice set for 3:00 p.m. Grandstand seating opens at 5:00 p.m. and qualifying is set for 5:45 p.m. with main events to follow.
