Six division show + Small Car Enduro on tap this coming Saturday night at Mahoning Valley Speedway; Point battles heating up

Mahoning Valley Speedway is heading into the final month of point racing and things are heating up at the paved ¼-mile oval for those drivers looking to win coveted championship trophies.

The Modified, Late Model and Street Stock classes couldn’t be any closer as all three divisions have multiple players that are in the title hunt.

With the second place finish last Saturday night by Kris Graver it pushed him back into the lead in the Modified standings over Earl Paules. Nevin George and Eric Beers are also keeping matters extremely close.

Paules won his seventh Late Model feature on August 30 and in doing so sprang past Frankie Althouse for top billing in the points of that class. Paules is attempting to win a third consecutive Late Model title. Still in the chase along with Althouse are Mike Sweeney and Paul Koehler Jr.,

As for the Street Stocks it appears that this will come down to the final day of point racing on October 4 which has become common place. Parity in this division is an understatement as no less than the top all of the top 10 drivers are vying for the championship.

The championship fight will continue on this coming Saturday, September 6 for all three aforementioned divisions as well as the Dirt Mods, Pro 4s and Hobby Stocks.

Also in the lineup of events his weekend is a Small Car Enduro sponsored by Circle 1 Design. The race will take place after all of the regular track classes have completed their respective features.

The Small Car Enduro will pay $400 to win, however, if 30 or more cars are registered to race then the top place goes up to $600 with the top six finishers also collecting money.

Adult general admission for September 6 is $12, $2.00 off for students, seniors 65 + and active military. Must have ID. Children 10 and under are free. Grandstand gates open at 4:00 pm.

Early paid practice is from 1:00 to 3:00. Regular practice goes from 4:30 to 5:30 with the races going green at 6:00.

Coming up on September 13, Mahoning Valley will host the Bob “Heavy” Scherer Memorial for Modifieds. The 50 lapper will pay $2000 to win. Scherer is a former Mahoning driver and may best be known, however, as the championship chief mechanic for Eric Beers and passed away earlier this year.

Also that night will be a special 30-lap, $300 to win main for the Hobby Stocks and the Micro Stocks are also on the racing card.

Mahoning Valley Speedway is located on PA route 443, two miles west of Lehighton. Additional info can be found on the track’s website at www.mahoningvalley-speedway.com Also on Facebook at Mahoning Valley Speedway.
