Scherer is a former Mahoning driver who always drove a No. 9 for car owner Dale Beers. He is also recognized for his mechanical genius as the championship chief mechanic for Eric Beers, his brother-in-law. Scherer passed away earlier this year. As a special tribute, the race will be paced by Pro 4 driver Kailyn Beers, Scherer’s niece and the green flag will be unfurled by Austin Beers, his nephew.

Also in the spotlight will be a special 30 lap feature event for the Hobby Stock division. The race was billed as $300-to-win affair, however, promoter Floyd Santee has added another $100, making the winner’s share $400.

The Hobby Stock class is now in its second season at Mahoning Valley and car counts along with the competition have grown in leaps and bounds.

Complementing the evening of pavement racing will be regular features for the Late Models, Street Stocks, Dirt Mods and Pro 4s plus the Micro Stock Racing Series will be in attendance. Kids Big Wheel races will be held during intermission.

Wrist bands from last Saturday’s washout (September 6) will be good for admission to the speedway for the next two weeks only, either September 13 or 20.

Adult general admission for the September 13 night is $15, however, no additional charge will be added to those with wrist bands from last week’s cancellation.

Mahoning Valley Speedway is located on PA route 443, two miles west of Lehighton. Additional info can be found on the track’s website at www.mahoningvalley-speedway.com Also on Facebook at Mahoning Valley Speedway.
