Mahoning Valley Speedway is preparing to bring down the curtain during the two-day Octoberfast 2014 which will be held on Saturday and Sunday, October 25-26.

Now in its third edition as the marquee event at Mahoning Valley, Octoberfast has become one of the must see season ending races for both asphalt and dirt fans and racers alike.

The paved ¼-mile Lehighton oval, run under the direction of promoter Floyd Santee, will be very busy on each day of Octoberfast with a bevy of activity taking place. There will be loads of laps, cash and race cars.

On Saturday, which is sponsored by Gary Lee’s Brown Daub KIA of Easton, the main attraction will be the $5000-to-win, 130-lap race for the Modifieds.

In just two years of existence this contest has brought out the very best in northeast regional pavement Modified stars and this year will be no different.

Inaugural winner Matt Hirschman and defending Octoberfast champion Zane Zeiner are in. Newly crowned Mahoning Modified titleholder Kris Graver has his car ready to roll as does all of the regular weekly Mahoning aces. This race is known for also drawing the “outsiders” and that list will be impressive. Inquireries and sign-ups are coming from throughout eastern Pennsylvania as well as New Jersey, New York and Connecticut.

Also on Saturday will be a 75-lap race for the Street Stocks with $2000 going to the winner. Harry’s U-Pull-It of West Hazleton has just signed on as the presenting sponsor for the Street Stock show. This class can rival that of the Modifieds. With weekly car counts that near and most times exceed 30, Mahoning is preparing for a record number of entrants that can easily surpass 40. Any driver knows that to win a Street Stock race at Mahoning Valley is a triumph well earned.

The Late Models are in action with a 60-lap/$1500-to-win run. Earl Paules won the race two years ago, the only time the second tier support class was part of Octoberfast. Paules just wrapped up his third consecutive division title and although he will be a clear cut favorite, there will be a number of others looking to make the top prize their own. Frankie Althouse, Mike Sweeney, Paul Koehler Jr. and George Ramos are part of the track regulars that can get the job done. Zane Zeiner will be bringing his Late Model out and confirming his entry is Travis Fisher.

Sweeney Racing is offering a $100 bonus to the highest finishing non-Mahoning regular in the Late Model feature.

The Hobby Stocks are still new to Mahoning Valley with the second season just being completed. However, with numbers that have swelled and competition to go along with it, Santee felt it was right to add them to the Saturday agenda and will pay $500 to win the 40-lap affair.

Saturday practice runs from 12:15 pm to 2:00 pm. A drivers meeting takes place at 2:15 pm. Heats begin at 3:00 pm. At intermission there will be a pick for feature starting spots on the front straight. A kids Trick-or-Treat party on track will also take place. Grandstand admission is $25 (no discounts), kids 10 years old and under are free.

On day two of Octoberfast 2014, Mahoning’s Dirt Mods and the USAC sanctioned Tobias SpeedSTRs will be vying for $3000 each for in their respective features. The Dirt Mods will run a 60-lap distance while the SpeedSTRs will cover 45 laps.
Not only do each of these classes bring some true star power to the table, but it is expected that several drivers may play a big part in both features.

The Dirt Mods have Kevin Graver Jr., Ricky Yetter, Jeff Parker, Jack Ely, Aleia Geisler, JP Curry, Mike Stofflet, Billy Lowden Jr., Ray Deemer and Dave Gorbatuk, who are the core members of the class that race each week.

Defending Octoberfast Dirt Mod winner Ricky Ross Jr., has expectations of repeating. Scott Adams, a very versatile racer, is hoping to score the win as will a very respectable number of others. This race was very well supported last year with over 30 cars. Watching Dirt Modifieds on Mahoning’s pavement is worth the price of admission.

The SpeedSTRs feature some of the best all-around drivers in the business. Kenny Brightbill, Billy Pauch Jr., Frank Cozze, Richie Tobias, Earl Paules, Kyle Lick and the list goes on. The cars made their Mahoning debut earlier this year and put on an amazing show from start to finish. Kris Graver surprised everyone winning in his very first start in a SpeedSTR. Many of those who are racing in the SpeedSTR event are looking to also run a Dirt Mod as well.

Complementing the Sunday program will be the All-Star Slingshots, Jr. Slingshots, Stage 1 Modifieds, Micro Stocks, Sr. Champ Karts and Jr. Sportsman Champ Karts.

Sunday practice is from 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm. The drivers meeting is at 2:15 pm followed by the start of heats at 2:30 pm. During intermission a draw for feature starting spots on front straight will take place for the Dirt Mods and SpeedSTRs. Grandstand admission is $25 (no discounts) Kids 10 years old and under are free. $5 discount if you show wrist band from Saturday’s show.

The rain date is November 1 and 2. Schedule is subject to change.
