Pennsylvania stock car driving ace Zane Zeiner won the 100-lap Modified “Haunted Hundred” at Wall Stadium on Saturday afternoon. After coming close during several of the big races he entered at the third mile paved oval this season Zeiner won his first Wall Stadium main event of the year.

Pole sitter Eric Mauriello of Howell took the early lead with Toms River’s Derek Hopkinson and Howell’s Jimmy Blewett close behind. The race was then slowed for ten minutes for a red flag incident on lap ten when several cars tangled in turn three. When the smoke cleared ten cars that were running mid-pack were collected in that incident.

When the race resumed Mauriello continued to lead with Hopkinson tight on his bumper. The two slowly pulled away to a four-car gap on third place Blewett. A caution just past the halfway mark tightened the field and several cars went into the pits for service. The top five runners stayed on the track.

On the restart Hopkinson grabbed the lead from Mauriello. A lap 63 caution then waved and several of the top ten cars pitted but not Hopkinson and Mauriello. On the restart Mauriello retook the lead from Hopkinson before Matawan’s Anthony Sesely made hard contact with the outside wall the result of a flat tire.

Race leader Mauriello went into the pits for service leaving Hopkinson, the new leader, as the only car in the field that had not pitted for service. On the restart second place Shawna Ingraham of Brick surged to the lead closely followed by Blewett and Zeiner.

Blewett then stayed tight on Ingraham’s bumper and challenged almost constantly for the lead.

The caution came out with just five laps remaining for a spun car. As the field returned to the green, Blewett hounded Ingraham. As the duo came past the flag stand the two cars touched. This forced Ingraham’s car into the wall and ended her race.

Blewett tried to return to the front of the field under caution. As he did so he made contact with New Egypt’s Jason Hearne’s car. Blewett was then black-flagged.

On the restart, the third place Zeiner took the lead and held the top spot for the remaining three laps. Hopkinson, Hearne, Chris Hamilton and Trevor Alspach were second through fifth.

“Sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good,” Zeiner said after the rich victory. “Luck was on our side today. Shawna (Ingraham) drove a hell of a race and Jimmy (Blewett) was very strong as well. To me it (the incident between Ingraham and Blewett) just looked like two drivers going for it (the win). This win is special for me because I've got an uncle that is very sick and I really wanted to win this one for him.

“This one’s for you man.”

Andrew Krause of Holmdel won the companion 50-lap Sportsman feature.

The race got off to a rough start due to multiple spin outs on the initial lap. Krause led the way early closely followed by Shannon Mongeau. The action was also intense close behind as a battle waged between Rob Hyer, newly crowned champion Kevin Davison and Chris Lane, both of Howell.

Although Mongeau kept the pressure on Krause, he was unable to find an opening to take the lead and Krause raced home the winner. Mongeau, Davison, Kenny Van Wickle of Manasquan and Ken Matlach wrapped up the top five.

Joe Mongeau won the 60-lap Factory Stock feature taking the early lead with Marty Van Druten of Toms River in second place. On lap ten Scott Riggleman Manchester took second place from Van Druten and closed the gap on Mongeau.

Mongeau and Riggleman stayed one and two for many laps while behind them many intense battles for position took place. A lengthy red flag came out for Neil Rutt lll of Toms River when he hit the wall. Since Rutt complained of neck pain the track’s medical crew decided to cut the roof off his car. Rutt was treated and released.

Lots of dicing for position highlighted the final laps of the race before Mongeau took the win. Vern McLaughlin, Riggleman, Jerry Koenig, Rich Mongeau completed the top five.

Richie Davidowitz won the 30-lap Legend Cars feature after a race for the lead that would last every lap. Robert French, Kevin Nowak, newly crowned champion Brian Spencer and Mitchell Dowd wrapped up the top five.

Buddy Sloed won the 25-lap TQ Midget feature. Sloed took the lead early with Joey Bailey in second. Ryan Tidman made an incredible comeback by coming from last place to take third place by lap six but was unable to get close enough to the leaders to mount a challenge for second place.

Speedway officials are now busy preparing for the annual Turkey Derby classic to be held during the daylight hours of Friday, Saturday and Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend.

The speedway is located on Route 34 in Wall Township, N.J., just one mile north of Garden State Parkway exit 98 and Interstate 195 exit 35B.
