Defending driving champion Kevin Davison and Shanon Mongeau, both of Howell, enjoyed victories in Snap-on Tools Sportsman main events at Wall Stadium Speedway Saturday night. For each it was the first win of the young season.

In the first feature, a 30-lapper fog postponed from the previous Saturday night, Davison battled Brick’s Dominic Fattaruso through the first 19 laps. When Fattaruso unexpectedly dropped from the race Davison took sole possession of the lead and was never headed. Howell’s Rob Silver was the runner-up, with Mongeau, Manasquan’s Kenny Van Wickle and Howell’s Chris Lane completing the top five.

In the regularly scheduled Sportsman 40-lapper, the first in the division’s Triple Crown series, Lane was the early leader and fought off attacks from Holmdel’s Andrew Krause, Mongeau and Brick’s Robert Sutphin through the early going. Mongeau was finally able to slip past on the inside lane on lap 26 and raced on to the win. Krause and Lane were second and third with Larry Thompson of Parlin and Van Wickle wrapping up the top five.

Edison’s Brian Spencer won his second straight main event for the Green Flag Driving Experience Legend Cars. Spencer took the lead on the fifth lap of this 35-lap Triple Crown series test and held off Howell’s Robert French, who came from deep in the field, in the closing laps. Joe McGrath of Middletown, Vincent Colletti and Nick Van Wickle were third through fifth.

Brick’s Ronnie Mullen jumped to the lead early and then enjoyed an advantage to take the win in the O’Shea’s Auto Repair Factory Stock 35-lap Triple Crown race. Wall’s Bob Haberstick, Jr. was the runner-up with Union’s Joey Helberg, Joe Mongeau of Brick and defending champ Scott Riggleman of Manchester wrapping up the top five.

Joey Bailey of Helmetta won the 20-lap feature for the visiting TQ Midgets grabbing the lead late in the race from Ryan Tidman of Levittown, Pa.

Late evening showers postponed the 25-lapper for the Green Monster Insulation 4 Cylinder Stocks.

Wall Stadium returns to action this Saturday (May 23) as the Downs Ford Modified stock cars return to celebrate the Memorial Day holiday with twin 35-lap main events on “Proud to be American” night. The Elite Maintenance Limited Late Models, Factory Stocks and 4 Cylinder Stocks will also be on the card.

With spectator seating opening at 5:00 p.m. qualifying is set for 6:00 p.m. followed by main events.

Wall Stadium presents professional motorsports events on Saturdays and Sundays through September with special post-season races in October and November.
