On paper it seemed like a great night for the Myers brothers on Saturday night at Bowman Gray Stadium. Jason Myers of Walnut Cove qualified on the pole and won the first race. Older brother Burt Myers of Walnut Cove finished on his tail in second and stays on top of the points ladder.

But for competitive racers with high expectations for themselves, disappointment often comes easy.

Burt Myers maintains his points lead in the Brad’s Golf Cars Modified Series, although getting caught in traffic during the second race caused him to lose a little ground to Tim Brown. “It’s a little disappointing the way the second race went - getting jammed up and you can’t go anywhere. It’s just frustrating for us,” said Myers.

Points for twin 25-lap Modified races are distributed based on the average finish between the two races. One position gained or lost could lead to a massive swing in the points earned.

Myers fared well enough, earning 42 points – but Tim Brown of Tobaccoville brought home 48 points. Brown moves to only 10 points under Myers.

However, Burt Myers feels that perhaps he and his team are turning the corner and are ready to accelerate their program even more. Although Myers has been obviously strong once the race is underway, his qualifying performance has not been up to his usual standards.

“We need to get our car a little better. We’re real close, and we’re happy with the direction we’re going,” said Myers.

In the Farm Bureau Insurance Sportsman Series, Taylor Brach of Lewisville won a wild first race. Branch stays in the points lead. Jeff Garrison of Arcadia falls back to fourth, making room for Michael Adams of Yadkinville to take over second and for Tommy Neal of Rural Hall to move into third.

Brian Wall of Winston-Salem and Derrick Rice of Kernersville entered last event tied for the points lead in the Q104.1 New Country Street Stock Series. But Rice’s involvement in a wreck causes him to plummet down to fifth. Wall secures the points lead all to himself.

Austin Edwards of Winston-Salem gets a boost up to second in the points rankings. David Creed of Ararat moves up to third.

In the McDowell Heating & Air Stadium Stock Series, Brandon Brendle of Winston-Salem grabbed the checkered in the annual Stadium Stock 50-lapper. The victory pads his points lead slightly – although second-ranked A.J. Sanders of Mocksville finishes in third, keeping the points gain to a minimum.

The points battles rage on this Saturday with the best racing for the absolute best price: it’s Camping World 100 and Two Dollar Ladies’ Night. Women are admitted for only two dollars to see the Camping World 100 for the Modifieds plus racing for the Sportsman, Street Stock, and Stadium Stock Divisions.

Gates open at 6:00 for practice, and the first race begins at 8:00 PM – this Saturday night. Ticket prices, directions, and more information can be found online at www.bowmangrayracing.com or by calling (336) 723-1819.
