Shanon Mongeau of Manchester and Kenny Van Wickle of Manasquan each claimed victory in Twin 35 lap main event for the Snap-on Sportsman cars at Wall Stadium Speedway Saturday night. It was the second win of the campaign for each driver in the Sportsman ranks.

Mongeau took full advantage of an up front starting spot in the 19-car field to jump to the lead at the outset of the first race. Brick’s Robert Sutphin chased him in the early going before Howell’s Chris Lane became the challenger near the ten lap mark. With just a handful of cautions for minor incidents Mongeau held his ground to the checker flag. Lane and Sutphin were second and third with Holmdel’s Andrew Krause and Parlin’s Larry Thompson wrapping up the top five.

“There are a lot of people to thank for the way this car runs,” Mongeau said. “They seem to work on this car all the time.”

In the Sportsman nightcap Van Wickle needed just a few laps to take control before fighting off the advances of Lane and Howell’s Kevin Davison. Just a handful of cautions slowed the test although the red flag waved on lap 28 when Brick’s Scott Brannick slammed the first turn rail. He was not injured.

Van Wickle then fought off Davison for the win while Mongeau came from mid pack to finish third. Tyler Truex of Manahawkin and Lane completed the top five.

“The car has been fast this year but we’ve had some troubles so far,” Van Wickle said. “The latest problem has been an electrical issue that we just solved tonight. The guys do a great job.”

In a car that has not been painted and was nick named the “Grey Ghost,” Ron Booth, Jr. raced to his first O’Shea’s Auto Repair Factory Stock win of the season. Wall’s Bob Haberstick challenged before settling for second, while Brick’s Ronnie Mullen, Union’s Joey Helberg and defending champion Scott Riggleman of Manchester rounded out the top five.

Mike Alcaro of West Milford raced to victory in the 25-lapper for the Green Flag Driving Experience Legend Cars beating Howell’s Robert French to the finish line. Mitchell Dowd, Edison’s Brian Spencer and Whiting’s Casey Robicheau were third through fifth.

Mike Tillett of Bayville won the non-stop 25-lap race for the Elite Maintenance Limited Late Models holding off challenger Anthony Crimaldi of Port Monmouth most of the way. Former champion Howie Conk of Jackson was third with John Vullo and Brian Doyle, both of Ronkonkoma, N.Y., fourth and fifth.
