Just one week after his brother broke through a lackluster season to win the “Summer Scorcher” at Wall Stadium Speedway Zack Alspach of Willingboro turned his campaign around by winning the 40-lap main event for Downs Ford Modified stock cars on NAPA/First Responders Night Saturday. It was the first win of the year for Zack Alspach and it marked the first time ever that Trevor and Zack Alspach won back-to-back events.

Zack Alspach jumped to the lead in the early going and the pace was frantic as just a handful of cautions slowed the race. Holmdel’s Andrew Krause was his first challenger before Justin Gumley, also of Holmdel, slipped into second on lap 15. Gumley challenged Alspach for a few circuits before Freehold’s Steven Reed powered to second. Reed then shadowed Alspach to the finish. Krause was third, with Freehold’s Chas Okerson and Jason Hearne of New Egypt wrapping up the to five.

“We really needed this win,” Zack Alspach said in victory lane. “We’ve had a real tough year. Nothing like the season we had last year.

“I was really worried when Steven Reed was behind me at the end. He is a clean driver but he sure doesn’t cut you any slack. Our car was really up to it tonight.”

Chris Lane of Howell won the companion main event for the Snap-on Sportsman cars. Wall’s Rob Silver fought with Tyler Truex of Manahawkin early in the test before they tangled on a restart. That moved Lane to the lead and he held his ground all the way to the checker flag at lap 20. Holmdel’s Andrew Krause applied heavy pressure before settling for second, with Brick’s Scott Brannick, Shanon Mongeau of Manchester and Manasquan’s Kenny Van Wickle completing the top five.

Point leader Joey Helberg of Union won the 25-lapper for the O’Shea’s Auto Repair Factory Stocks taking the lead on lap 21. Brothers Joe and Rich Mongeau were second and third, with Bob Haberstick and Tiffany Olejnik, both of Wall, fourth and fifth.

Vinny Troia took the lead on lap 18 and then drove to victory in the Green Flag Driving Experience Legend Cars 35-lapper. Wall’s Robert French advanced to second by the checker flag with Edison’s Brian Spencer, Casey Robicheau of Whiting and Nick Van Wickle finishing third through fifth.

The Green Monster Insulation 4 Cylinder Stocks ran two main events. In the first one, a 35-lapper, Christian LaCicero of Lavallette won his first ever main event over Brick’s Robert Sutphin and Howell’s Darren Burdge. In the 25-lap nightcap rookie Fred Cannock was also a career first time winner over Burdge and LaCicero.

Wall Stadium returns to action this Saturday (August 15) for Champions Night action featuring the Modifieds, Limited Late Models, 4 Cylinder Stocks, Legend Cars and Micro Stocks. The Garden State Vintage Stock Car Club will be on hand to help honor some of the speedways former champions. Spectator seating opens at 5:00 p.m. qualifying is set for 5:30 p.m. followed by main events.
