Sponsorship to honor memory of Mac Myers
Lancaster National Speedway fans have enjoyed all the recent repairs and upgrades that have been done to the facility throughout the 2015 season, but one thing has been missing from their experience. The biggest request from our race fans has been to install a lap counter to help them keep track of the on-track action on Saturday nights.
Those requests have not fallen on deaf ears as Lancaster National Speedway is proud to announce the acquisition of a brand new three-digit lap counter to be installed in turn one.
The purchase was made possible with help from Speed Enterprises of Cheektowaga, NY, the official towing company of Lancaster National Speedway & Dragway. The sponsorship was done in honor of the late Mike "Mac" Myers, who was a longtime employee of the speedway. A sign paying tribute the memory of Myers will be installed next to the lap counter.
Myers was part of the Lancaster Speedway family for over 30 years and worked with the different promoters and owners that came and went during his time from 1971 until 2004. On Friday nights he worked in the staging lanes and also as a spotter at top end. Mac was fixture on Saturday nights as well, leading the tow truck crew as infield coordinator.
Myers's son and Speed Enterprises owner, Mike Myers, currently serves as the manager of Lancaster's Fire & Safety Team on race nights. Myers wanted a way for his father to be remembered by all that attend the races at Lancaster.
The new lap counter will feature a three-digit LED display with 24-inch numbers. Installation of the lap counter should be completed in time for the 27th annual U.S. Open on September 25-27.
Founded in 1959, Lancaster National Speedway is a multi-use facility located on 77 acres just outside of metropolitan Buffalo, NY. The facility features a 1/8-mile drag, a 5/8-mile oval track and hosts several non-motorsports events such as car shows and concerts.
