Lancaster National Speedway & Dragway officials are pleased to announce the 2016 season schedule for its Saturday night Stock Car program. It is the most jam-packed schedule in several seasons with 17 events planned, which is an increase from the 13 events scheduled in 2015.

Lancaster National Speedway's three weekly home track divisions will continue to be the Sportsman, Street Stocks and 4-Cylinders in 2016. The Sportsman division saw a tremendous turnout in the second half of last season with strong fields exceeding 20 cars. Lancaster is the only short track in Erie County running this open-wheel division on a weekly basis this season. The Street Stocks and 4-Cylinders fields are looking to increase fields, as well, based off interest and turnout during their recent preseason meetings.

"A lot of input and guidance went into creating this schedule," said Tim Packman, Track President. "We look forward to our very-talented Lancaster racers and all the visiting teams coming out to race at our track. The preseason divisional meetings went very well across the board and there is a lot of anticipation for 2016.”

The 58th season of stock car racing at Lancaster will begin on Sunday, April 17 with the reintroduction of a speedway tradition. The lid lifter will once again be called the “Queen City Clash” and will feature a 75-lap event for the Race of Champions Modified Series. The Street Stocks, 4-Cylinders and NYPA TQ Midgets will fill out the program with racing beginning at 2 p.m.

Lancaster will keep the pedal to the metal once the green flag waves on the new season. The three Saturdays following the Queen City Clash will feature racing programs starting at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 23 will be headlined by the seasonal debuts for the Sportsman and Late Models. Saturday, April 30 is "Pack the Track" day with $5.00 grandstand admission and the Big 10 Super Stocks joining Lancaster's weekly divisions. The Late Models return for the final Saturday afternoon show on May 7 for "Walk the Track" day.

"We asked the drivers and teams if they wanted to start racing in April if we open the middle of that month,” Packman said. “They all said they did, so we came up with a schedule to go along with what we discussed. They have race cars and we have a race track, so let’s race.”

The traditional "Saturday night under the lights" stock car racing shows begin on Saturday, May 14 when the start time reverts to 6:30 p.m. for the remainder of the season.

The ground-pounding Race of Champions (RoC) Modified Series returns for an unprecedented four dates in 2016, including the Queen City Clash. Lancaster will once again hold a special mid-week show for the "Mighty Modifieds" on Thursday, June 30 for the second annual "Ol' Boy Cup 60" Bill Colton Memorial. Saturday, August 20 will be the 27th annual Tommy Druar/Tony Jankowiak Memorial Modified 110 for the RoC Modified Series. The Modifieds will also headline the 28th annual U.S. Open weekend on Sunday, September 25 with the U.S. Open 125.

The Late Models will run four times during Lancaster's regular season as part of a seven-race series with Holland Motorsports Complex. In addition to their two early season dates, the full-fendered warriors will do battle on Lancaster's 1/2-mile oval on July 16 and August 6.

Additional special events include the return of the Sportsman Summer Slam 75 on Saturday, June 18. Super Stock action continues on May 14 with the New York Super Stock Series and August 27 with a second appearance by the Big 10 Super Stocks. TQ Midget racing will return to Lancaster with five dates for the NYPA TQ Midget Association plus the winged Can-Am TQ Midgets Series make a return on August 13.

"The Late Models, NYPA TQ Midgets, Can-Am TQ Midgets, NY Super Stocks and Big 10 Super Stocks are great additions to this strong schedule,” Packman said. “This gives our fans a nice variety of racing throughout the season to go along with our weekly divisions.”

The 2016 season wraps up with the 28th edition of Western New York's racing finale, the U.S. Open, on September 23-25 with eight divisions in action throughout the weekend.

Four Thursdays practice/rain dates have been added to the schedule, as well. Racing could take place if any Saturday programs are rained out, if not they will be used as practice sessions. These will take place on May 26, June 9, August 4 and September 1. More details will be available in the near future.

The 2016 preseason registration party for both the stock cars and drag racers will take place on Sunday, February 28, 2016 at 2 p.m. at the Variety Banquet Hall at 6114 Broadway in Lancaster. Racers will be able to register their cars, purchase memberships and reserve pit pads.
