Opening Weekend now moved to April 29 and April 30

Lancaster National Speedway and Dragway will start to make improvements to their dragstrip, oval, pit areas and other parts of the facility beginning on Monday, April 18.

Included in the plans is a concrete resurfacing of the dragstrip. It will be the first time in track history the dragstrip, which also doubles as the frontstretch of the stock car oval, will be concrete.

The next phase of capital improvements also includes repaving sections of the stock car oval. Last year, major repairs were made to the oval and it led to increased competition during Lancaster’s Saturday night stock car racing program. This round of upgrades includes section in between turns 3 & 4 and a smaller area in turn 1. Two larger areas of the Stock Car Pits are being paved, as well.

There will also be improvements to the lighting and wiring around the track, Main Concession stands and other overall upgrades to the facility.

A milling machine and other equipment arrived on the track grounds Friday morning to ensure Monday’s start date. They were delivered by one of our current partners, Mallare Enterprises via their fleet of truck equipment.

“I can’t even begin to fathom what a huge move forward this is for Lancaster National Speedway & Dragway, there a lot of people involved with this track who are very happy right now,” said Tim Packman, Track President. “The ownership group saw how the race teams and fans responded to improvements that were made last year, so they deserve a lot of the credit for showing them the investment is worthwhile.

“Those results and the anticipation surrounding this year also factored in deciding what improvements needed to be made. Unfortunately, we have to move the Opening Weekend back to April 29 and 30 to let the racing surfaces set properly and be readied for the Drag and Stock Car programs.

“I’m fairly confident our race teams and fans will understand and be even more appreciative when we start racing. This is a great time for Lancaster National Speedway & Dragway.”

Contracts were awarded to Surianello Concrete and Tom Greenauer Development for the track resurfacing with all supplies and labor being WNY related.

The Franco’s Pizza Friday Night IHRA Drag Racing program will kick off its season on Friday, April 29 with Mallare Enterprises Top ET, McGard Mod ET, Tread City Tire Street and Hebeler’s Sales Sleds & Bikes. Gates will open at 3 p.m. with Time Trials starting at 5 p.m. with $5 admission for the grandstands.

The 57th season of stock car racing will now begin on Saturday, April 30 with the Queen City Clash featuring the Sunoco Sportsman, Big 10 Super Stocks, Street Stocks and 4-Cylinders on the schedule with a 2 p.m. start for racing.

Because of the delay in opening, Pack the Track with $5 admission for all adults is now moved to Saturday May 7. That day will now be Pack AND Walk the Track with a start time of 2 p.m., as well.

The ever popular Cruise Night starts on Wednesday, May 4 with FREE admission and ending with the crowd pleasing Burnout Contest.
