Dragway season opener and Pack the Track for Stock Cars on tap

Lancaster National Speedway & Dragway kicks off the month of May with their first full weekend of racing for the 2016 season.

The action starts Friday night, May 6 with the season opener for the Franco's Pizza Friday Night IHRA Drag Racing Series. It will be the first points race to be contested on Lancaster's recently resurfaced concrete dragstrip. The start of the season was pushed back after the resurfacing project was delayed due to snow and cold weather in early April.

All four weekly classes will be in action, including Mallare Enterprises Top ET, McGard Mod ET, Hebeler's Sales Sleds & Bikes and Tread City Tire Street. It will also be the season debut for Quick 8 featuring the eight fastest Top ET cars that night on their own special ladder competing for an increased purse.

Pit gates open at 3 p.m. on Friday with time trials starting at 5 p.m. Adult All Access passes are just $15 and children under 12 are free.

Saturday, May 7 at Lancaster National Speedway is Pack the Track day with four divisions of thrilling Stock Car racing for just $5.00. The X-Press Signs Late Models make their season debut as they join Lancaster's three weekly divisions.

Lancaster's Stock Car program is coming off its biggest opening day in several years with 64 cars pitside, which was 24 more than the 2015 opener. Jake Lyon on Elma, N.Y. topped a field of 22 Sunoco Sportsman to kickoff the season with a win. TJ Cochrane of Cheektowaga held off Mark Hoch in an exciting lidlifter for the Advance Auto Parts Street Stocks. Kevin Bainbridge of Buffalo edged teammate Bobby Woch to win the Roaming Buffalo 4-Cylinder feature.

Pit gates open at 9 a.m. on Saturday with practice beginning at 11 a.m. Grandstand gates will open at 1 p.m. with the first green flag to wave shortly after 2 p.m.
