RoC Mods headline 5-division show with special 5:30 p.m. start time
Lancaster National Speedway & Dragway continues its historic tradition as the home of Modified racing in Western New York on Saturday, May 21 when the Ferris Mowers Race of Champions Modified Series makes its first, of four, visits to the half-mile oval this season.
The rescheduled Queen City Clash 75 is part of a ground-pounding, five-division program that night which will include the Sunoco Sportsman, Advance Auto Parts Street Stocks, Roaming Buffalo 4-Cylinders and the NYPA TQ Midgets. It will be the only chance this season for area race fans to catch both the Modifieds and Sportsman in feature action on the same night.
With the stacked slate of racing for that evening, Lancaster National Speedway officials have decided to move the start time to 5:30 p.m. This will allow fans to enjoy a full show of racing without running late into the night. General Admission for this race, and this race only, will be $25 for adults, students 12 to 17 will remain at $10 for special events and children under 12 will be admitted free of charge. Concessions will open at 4:30 p.m. that day.
“When we rescheduled the original RoC Modified date from April 17 to May 21, we didn’t want to take the Sunoco Sportsman off the schedule as they are our premier division,” said Tim Packman, Track President. “With five divisions of racing, the Front Gate price will be $25 for this one race, only. When the RoC Modifieds return on June 30 and August 20, we will go back to our regular $20 adult, special-event admission for those nights.
“To add more value for the $5 extra, we are opening the Front Gates two hours before race time so fans can catch practice or get their favorite seats. We’re expecting a lot of race cars, a lot of people and a lot of action that night.”
Three different Modified drivers visited victory lane last season at Lancaster. Former track champion, Chuck Hossfeld, won the inaugural Ol’ Boy Cup Bill Colton Memorial 60 in June, Patrick Emerling earned his first Lancaster Modified checkered flag in August in the prestigious Tommy Druar/Tony Jankowiak Memorial 110 and Matt Hirschman captured the U.S. Open 125 in September for the fourth time.
Two of those drivers were at Lancaster this past Saturday competing in the Sunoco Sportsman getting some valuable track time on the improved racing surface. Emerling dominated the second half of the 35-lap feature to get the win. Hossfeld rebounded from a spin on the race’s second lap to finish fourth. Former U.S. Open winner and RoC Series regular Tony Hanbury was also in the Sportsman field and finished ninth. Former Sportsman and Street Stock track champion, Andy Jankowiak, was there with his RoC Modified to take some hot laps.
As a reminder, adult general admission tickets for the Queen City Clash 75 will be $25, students (12-17) are just $10 and kids under 12 are free. Front gates will open at 3:30 p.m. to allow fans the opportunity to catch some of the practice sessions and the concessions will open at 4:30 p.m. that day.
