When asked by the announcer if he would be the first to be glad he ran American Racer Tires, NASCAR Sunoco Modified feature winner, Daryl Lewis Jr., responded, “That’s a big 10-4”.

Lewis used his up front starting position to lead all 35 laps of the Sunoco Modified feature. “We had some luck tonight,” Lewis related to the crowd on hand. “Kevin (Timmerman) is a tough customer, but he is a very clean driver. We are lucky to hold him off.”

Mike Hyman, from Williamson, took top honors in the Auto Value 4-Cylinder Scorpion feature. “This is the same cars we had last year, with a new body and paint,” stated Hyman from victory lane.
In the Super Six class Barrett Schenk led all 20-laps to win his first feature of the year by some six car lengths over Tim Faro. “There is a third lane outside tonight. I use a smaller motr so I can go deeper into the turns and get back on it faster. That could be a key to my success.” Schenk stated after the feature.

The start of the 35-lap Sunoco Modified feature was aborted. The second try at a clean start saw Daryl Lewis Jr. take the lead over Kevin Timmerman and Amy Catalano. Mike Leaty quickly joined the fray in fourth. These four cars seemed to be the class of the field and began to pull away from Tommy Catalano in fifth.

With just three laps remaining, the yellow flew for a spin by newcomer Steve Link in the fourth turn. This set up a dash to the checkers. Lewis Jr., was able to hold Timmerman at bay. Leaty used this restart opportunity to take third from Amy Catalano.

At the line it was Lewis Jr., Timmerman, Leaty, Amy Catalano and Tommy Catalano. When asked about the restart, Timmerman stated,” the outside here is always rough at the beginning of each year. It’s tough to challenge out there.”

The Super Sixes were able to run Green-to-Checkers. This allowed pole sitter Barrett Schenk to grab the lead and start to pull away slightly from the rest of the field. Tim Faro fell into second followed by Ashley Schoonmaker. They would remain in this order at the checkers. Brian Hallett and Van Grant rounded out the top five finishers.

The 15-lap Auto Value 4-Cylinder Scorpions were the first feature on the track. The start saw Paul Flye take the lead. But second place Mike Hyman made his move on the inside down the back stretch on the second lap to take the lead. Hyman was then able to pull away to a three car advantage.

The yellow flew on lap 11 for a spinout in the third turn by Dave Himes. Hymoan protected his lead on the restart. Flye settled for second behind Hyman at the finish. Jennifer Dennie made a hard charge on the white flag lap to take third from Carrie Bolton. Bolton came home in fourth followed by Tom Alloco.

This coming Friday, May 27, Spencer Speedway will be hosting another regular night of NASCAR racing including the Sunoco Modifieds, Super Sixes and 4-Cylinder Scorpions. A special “Meet and Greet” is scheduled for the front stretch during intermission. Fans will be allowed onto the track and get up close and next to the cars and stars at Spencer Speedway.
