Lancaster National Speedway’s stock car program returned to action on Saturday following a week off for the Memorial Day holiday. Patrick Emerling of Orchard Park, N.Y. picked up his third-straight win of the season in the Sunoco Sportsman. Dave Wilson of Hamburg, N.Y. earned his second-straight win in the Advance Auto Parts Street Stocks. Jake Wylie of Blasdell, N.Y. scored his second win of the season at Lancaster in the Race of Champions Big 10 Super Stocks. Rich Bartel of Depew, N.Y. was declared the winner of the Roaming Buffalo 4-Cylinder feature.

Sherri Hogan and Tommy Catalano led the 17-car Sunoco Sportsman field to the initial green flag for the 35-lap feature. A couple of cautions slowed the opening the laps of the race before the leaders settled in for a long green flag run. Catalano took command of the field with Billy Burd and Patrick Emerling eventually moving into second and third place.

The trio of Catalano, Burd and Emerling took off from the pack as the race neared the halfway point. They ran nose-to-tail until the caution flew on lap 25 for a spin by Owen Bednasz. Catalano and Burd lined up on the front row for the restart with Burd stealing the lead from the outside pole. Burd then survived three more late race restarts to cross the finish line first.

In post-race inspection Burd and third place finisher, Neal Dietz, Jr., were disqualified. This handed Emerling his third Sunoco Sportsman win in a row. Kevin Miller, who flew up from Mooresville, N.C. to race, finished second. Amy Catalano, Tommy Catalano and Sherri Hogan rounded out the top five.

The Advance Auto Parts Street Stock feature had a similar theme with three cars pulling away from the field. Pole sitter Dennis Londos led from the drop of the green flag with Dave Wilson and Mark Hoch hooking up with Londos in a three-car breakaway. Wilson passed Londos for the lead on lap 18 and held on for the final seven laps to get his second win in a row.

Jake Wylie picked up his second win in a row at Lancaster in the Race of Champions Big 10 Super Stocks. Wylie started on the pole and led all 30 laps in the feature. He faced challenges from Tommy Krawczyk and Tim Gullo along the way, but Wylie could not be beat. Krawczyk and Gullo had to settle for second and third, followed by Ryan Lagoda and Joe Mancuso.

Rich Bartel was declared the winner of the Roaming Buffalo 4-Cylinder feature after initial winner Tim Durfy was disqualified in post-race inspection. Third place finisher Kevin Bainbridge was also disqualified for failing tech.

Lancaster’s next stock car event is Saturday, June 18 with the Joe Reilly Memorial Sportsman Summer Slam 75 as the Sunoco Sportsman will do battle in their longest race of the season. The Advance Auto Parts Street Stocks, Roaming Buffalo 4-Cylinders and NYPA TQ Midgets will join the race program that night.
