View Full Version : 06/04/16 - Kimball Repeats in Sportsman Modifieds At Monadnock

This past Saturday, Monadnock Speedway hosted their regular NASCAR Whelen All American Series divisions along with the Star Antique Racers. There were some familiar faces in victory lane along with celebrations of first of the season wins.

The stars and cars of yester-year, the Senior Tour Auto Racers started the evening’s events. The top three finishers in the Senior Tour Auto Racers’ Modified division were Danny Ferland, Gregg Massiniand Jim Allen. In the Senior Tour Auto Racers’ Sportsman division the top three were Bob Harless , Rick MacDowell and Alan Zemla.

The Young Guns were next on the program as Alex Barden led the field to the green. Barden held onto the lead but soon was challenged by sophomore driver, Shelby Avery. By lap four, Avery made her move and took over the lead. Avery started to stretch her lead as Devin Guy attempted to catch Barden for second. At the checkers, Avery crossed the finish line collecting her second win of the season followed by Barden, Guy and Chloe Wright.

The Super Stocks, slated to run the fourth event of the night, rolled onto the track next being moved up to the second feature to allow a competitor to tend to a family emergency. Tyler Lescord held the pole position with Rich Fournier along his side. Lescord held off Fournier for the lead as Tyler Leary passed Duane Noll for third. By lap ten, the top two remained the same as Robert Hagar made his move on Leary for third. Lescord looked to have this race wrapped up to collect his first victory of the season but on lap eighteen a multi car wreck happened on the front stretch when Fournier lost control of his race machine bounced off the wall and then down into several cars on the front stretch. Involved in the wreck and not being able to finish the night was Dennis Stange, Robert Hagar and Rich Founier who all suffered extensive damage. On the restart, Lescord attempted to hold off Leary but lost the lead on lap nineteen. At the wave at the checkers it was Leary, Lescord, Nancy Muni, Duane Noll and Allen Griffin. In a post-race inspection, Muni was penalized for a rule infraction giving third place to Noll.

Kevin McKnight led out the Mini Stock field for their twenty-five lap feature event. At the green Mcknight led the field however by lap two the fans saw a new leader of Matt Kimball. McKnight was left in a challenge for second with Solomon Brow. Brow’s challenge for second ended on lap eight when he pulled off the track with mechanical issues. Kimball continued to lead until a caution came out on lap eleven for Mike McGoldrick. On the restart, McKnight took back the lead as Cole Littewood and Pomasko both battled Kimball for second. On lap twenty-three, the caution flew once again for Pomasko. In a two lap shootout to the checkers, it was Cole Littlewood capturing his first victory followed by McKnight, Ethan marsh, Kimball and Pomasko.

The final event of the night was the speedway’s feature division of the Sportsman Modifieds. Jason Barden and Brian Robie, side by side, brought the field to the green. Robie quickly jumped into the lead bringing with him Eric Leclair and Trevor Bleau for second and third. On lap five, Bleau took over the top spot as Bill Kimball was knocking on the door for third. On lap nine, a caution came out as Nathan Johnson took a spin in turn one and two. Carzello unable to avoid Johnson and Byrne suffered damage to his car ending his night. On the restart, Bleau held off Kimball as Kim Rivet moved into the top three. Another caution came out on lap fifteen as Barden spun into the infield with Kimball in the lead. Kimball restarted the field as the leader as Bleau and Rivet battled it out for third. Rookie Geoff Rollins sat in fourth. At the checkers, it was Kimball taking the win for the third time this season followed by Bleau, Rivet, Johnson and Eric Leclair.
