The Granite State Pro Stock series invaded Lee USA Speedway to join the NASCAR Whelen All American Series season weekly divisions on Friday night, with DJ Shaw of Center Conway taking down the GSPSS 100-lap win in impressive fashion.

Shaw and Jeremy Davis of Tamworth led the field to green for the GSPSS main, with some intense competition that saw the lead swapped several times along the 100-lap distance. Davis quickly moved past polesitter Shaw to gain the point, where he stayed past the 20-lap mark.

By lap 30, Hudson’s Derek Griffith, the series’ defending champ, had worked past to take command, but he was under quickly attack with Bryan Kruczek of Newmarket who pressured him right through the halfway mark. Davis and Shaw had settled into third and fourth at the crossed flags, saving their tires for a late-race run.

Davis’ shot at victory went away when he retired to the pits on lap 78, with Shaw now second behind Griffith and looking for the lead. Griffith held him at bay for a few laps, but Shaw eventually prevailed and went on the collect the checkers and win the 2016 edition of the Seacoast 100.

Griffith went home with a hard-earned but disappointing runner-up finish, followed by former Lee USA regular Kruczek, veteran Barry Gray of Belchertown, MA, and another pair of former Lee weekly competitors, Bobby Baillargeon and Jeremy Harclerode. Bobby Cabral, Mike Parks, Bill Helliwell, and Tyler Fiscus rounded out the top ten.

NASCAR Whelen All-American Series action saw Kyle Sawyer return to victory lane in the 30-lap EKeys4cars Supermodified feature event, making his first trip to the winner‘s circle since 2014 in his family-owned machine after starting fourth on the grid.

Sawyer was off like a shot when flagman Bryon Callen let them loose, and he quickly moved to the lead. Once out front, Sawyer never looked back, going on to post the victory with a 0.649 second margin over Fremont’s Lance Barthelemy, a winner the week before on opening n.

Rookie of the Year contender “Hollywood” Dave Helliwell of Pelham posted his best result of the young season in the third spot, with Leslie Keyser of Northfield and Rochester’s Mike Spurling finishing up the top five. Veteran Artie Rousseau and Keyser took down the heat race wins.

Ray Dinsmore of Alfred, ME led the R & R Public Wholesalers Late Model Sportsman feature to the green flag, and he quickly pulled away to set the early pace. Dinsmore was off to the races over the first half of the 30-lap run, while the rest of the field battled for position several car lengths behind.

Former two-time champ Grant Aither of Exeter was next to break out of the pack, and he began reeling in the race leader with the laps quickly clicking off. Dinsmore held him off for a few circuits, but Aither eventually made the pass and went on to collect the checkers for his first win of the 2016 campaign.

Dinsmore picked up a solid runner-up finish, with Exeter’s Jimmy Russell moving up in the late laps to post third. Fourth went to Nate Leavitt of Buxton, ME, followed by Frankie Eldredge of Stratham, George Helliwell of Pelham, Jason Ryan of Salem, Steve Paquette of Seabrook, Pittsfield’s Jesse Bousquet, and Mike Mitchell of Dracut, MA.

The David’s Race Cars and Components Hobby Stock main saw Paul Palen of Pelham out to the early lead, with two-time champ Patrick Tanguay of Rochester up quickly to challenge. The race was red flagged six laps in when Barrington racer Jay Aver caught a piece of the front stretch wall and flipped, sliding to a stop upside down at the entrance to turn one.

Avery was unhurt in the incident, and just two laps later, opening night winner Brian DeStefano joined him on the DNF list after a hard trip into the third turn concrete. Palen picked up the lead on the restart, but Tanguay made the pass on lap 12 to take over the point.

It was all but over from there, as Tanguay led the rest of the way to score his first win of the season. Palen checkered second, with Zac Fraser of Nottingham, Jake Michaud, and Eric Hoffman closing out the top five.

The Tri-City Line-X Ironman feature event was all defending champ Troy Washburn in the early going, but Ryan Pitkin made it a two-car race in the late going. Pitkin moved the to the outside with five laps to go and battled side by side with the leader, racing door to door with Washburn to the white flag.

Lapped traffic became a factor with the checkers in sight, and Pitkin looked low as the lead duo worked turn two on the final lap. “Flyin’ Ryan” took advantage of the traffic, ducking low to take over the lead down the backstretch, holding the point to the checkers to score his first win of the season.

Washburn checkered second, with Adam Knowles of Seabrook , Ryan Washburn, Jamie Holland, Shane Horvath of Nottingham, defending champ Troy Washburn of Rochester, Joe LaPorte, John Blanchard, and Travis Hollins the rest of the top ten.

Scott Farrington set the early pace in the MLM Diagnostics Pure Stock main event, but a late-race charge in the outside groove sent Danielle Evans of Lebanon, ME to victory lane. It was Evans’ first career win, with Farrington and opening night winner Tyler Mailhot rounding out the podium.

Next week’s June 10 program features the annual autograph night preceding the night’s racing action, with the Northeast Classic Lites and Senior Tour Auto Racers (STAR) in action along with the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series weekly divisions.
