Berndt, Gambacorta, Wesson, Bren, Trott, & Korner Score June 17 Stafford 150 Feature Wins at Stafford

Stafford Speedway returned to NASCAR Whelen All-American Series racing action with the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East in the house for the Stafford 150. Taking down NASCAR Whelen All-American Series weekly feature wins on the night were Eric Berndt in the SK Modified® feature, Kevin Gambacorta in the Late Model feature, Daniel Wesson in the SK Light feature, Justin Bren in the Limited Late Model feature, Alexandra Fearn crossed the finish line first but was disqualified in post race tech for a ride height issue, making Tyler Trott the winner, and Noah Korner in the Legend Cars feature.

In the 40-lap SK Modified® feature event, Brian Sullivan took the lead from the pole and he led the first lap before Nick Salva and Woody Pitkat came together and hit the wall in turn 3 to bring the caution out.

Sullivan took the lead back under green with Todd Owen moving into second. Stephen Kopcik and Matt Galko were side by side for third with Tom Bolles in fifth. Just behind Bolles were Dan Avery and Jeff Baral side by side for sixth. Owen took the lead from Sullivan on lap-4 and then with 4 laps complete Michael Gervias, Jr. and Ted Christopher spun in turn 4 to bring the caution out.

Owen took the lead on the restart with Kopcik and Sullivan side by side for second. Kopcik took the spot on lap-5 while behind them Bolles moved by Sullivan to move into third. Avery and Sullivan were now side by side for fourth place on lap-7 as Kopcik moved by Owen to take over the race lead. There was a multicar incident on the backstretch involving the cars of Pitkat, Danny Cates, Tyler Hines, and Jeremy Sorel that brought the caution back out with 7 laps complete.

Kopcik took the lead on the restart with Owen in second. Bolles and Avery were side by side for third with Sullivan and Ronnie Williams side by side for fifth. Kopcik held the lead until lap-12 when Owen got a good run going down the backstretch and into turn 3 to move to the front. Kopcik came right back on lap-13 to Owen’s inside and he had the lead at the stripe. He got clear of Owen on lap-14 and Bolles also got around Owen to move into second and drop Owen back to third. Williams and Avery spun through the infield on the frontstretch to bring the caution back out with 16 laps complete.

Kopcik took the lead back under green with Owen moving into second. Berndt and Bolles were side by side for third with Keith Rocco and Sullivan side by side for fifth and Ted Christopher was back up to seventh after his earlier misfortune. Berndt took second from Owen on lap-20 and just as he took second Sullivan spun into the turn 1 wall and collected the cars of Shawn Thibeault and D.J. Burnham to bring the caution out.

Kopcik got the jump on the restart but Berndt moved into the lead with a pass in turns 3+4 with Rocco moving into second one lap after the restart. Rowan Pennink was looking to the inside of Kopcik for third with Owen in fifth. Pennink took third on lap-23 and Kopcik slid into line in fourth with Owen right behind him as Berndt continued to lead Rocco.

Pennink was starting to apply heavy pressure to Rocco for second with 10 laps to go as Berndt continued to lead the race. Kopcik was fourth and Christopher had gotten around Owen to move into fifth.

Pennink able to make a pass stick on Rocco to move into second on lap-38 as Berndt continued to lead the race. Berndt led Pennink and Rocco to the checkered flag to pick up his first win of the 2016 season. Kopcik finished fourth and Christopher rounded out the top-5.

In the 30-lap Late Model feature event, Scott Cook led the first lap but Rich Hammann went to the lead on lap-2. Cook slid back to ninth in line as Kevin Gambacorta, Tom Fearn, Michael Wray, Josh Wood, Joel Monahan, Tyler Leary, and Andy Marchese all got by.

Wood got around Wray to move into fourth on lap-6 while Fearn was starting to slowly close down the gap to the lead duo of Gambacorta and Hammann. Gambacorta took the lead from Hammann on lap-9 with a pass in turn 2 and Fearn followed suit by moving into second on lap-11.

At the halfway point of the race, Gambacorta held the lead over Fearn, Hammann, Wood and Wray. With 10 laps to go, Gambacorta was still in command of the race with a large gap back to Fearn and Wood in second and third. Wray continued to run fourth and Hammann was fifth.

Gambacorta led the field to the checkered flag to pick up his first career Late Model feature victory. Fearn finished second with Wood, Wray, and Hammann rounding out the top-5. Gambacorta’s feature win now gives him wins in Stafford’s DARE Stock, Limited Late Model, and Late Model divisions.

In the 20-lap SK Light feature event, Wesley Prucker took the early lead with Todd Douillard, Al Wisialko, Ted Cain, and Joe Graf, Jr. making up the top-5. With 5 laps complete, as the field came through turn 4, Cain’s car snapped around and he hit Graf’s car which sent Graf into the path of David Arute’s car to bring the caution and red flags out. Pete Lopuch’s car was also involved in the incident.

Back under green Prucker took the lead with Douillard right on his bumper. Douillard took a look to Prucker’s inside but he got back in line in second. Carlos Gray was up to third behind Prucker and Douillard with Daniel Wesson moving up to fourth and Tony Membrino, Jr. was on the charge to move up to fifth. Ted Cain pulled off the track on the backstretch to bring the caution out with 9 laps complete.

Prucker took the lead on the restart but Douillard made a move to get to Prucker’s inside and he took the lead from Prucker on lap-11. Wesson followed him by Prucker and he made a move to Douillard’s and they ran side by side with Douillard holding the lead at the line. Gray spun in the middle of turns 1+2 to bring the caution out with 12 laps complete.

Douillard and Wesson resumed their side by side duel for the lead back under green. The duo ran side by side for a lap with Wesson taking the lead by a nose at the line. Wesson then cleared Douillard going into turn 1 on lap-14. Behind the lead duo Membrino was now up to third with Joey Ferrigno up to fourth and Prucker was running in fifth.

Wesson pulled away from Douillard to take the checkered flag for his second win of the 2016 season. Membrino finished third with Ferrigno and Prucker rounding out the top-5.

In the 20-lap Limited Late Model feature event, Justin Bren took the lead at the green flag with Bryan Narducci, Matt Clement, Jeremy Lavoie, and Al Saunders lined up behind him. Saunders moved by Lavoie to move up to fourth on lap-4 and his brother Cliff Saunders also got by Lavoie to drop him from fourth back to sixth.

The Saunders twins were quickly working their way through traffic and moved up to third and fourth as Bren and Narducci has pulled away from the pack at the midway point of the race. Bren led Narducci to the checkered flag as the race went green to checkered. Al Saunders finished third with last week’s winner Robert Bloxsom, III finishing fourth and Cliff Saunders was fifth.

In the 15-lap DARE Stock feature event, Nicole Chambrello led the field to the green flag and she took the early lead with Zack Robinson, Dan Dembek, Alexandra Fearn, and Ryan Fearn lined up behind her. Robinson made a move to the inside of Chambrello in turns 3+4 on lap-3 to move to the front. Dembek, Alexandra Fearn, and Ryan Fearn all followed Robinson by Chambrello and Chambrello continued to slide backwards as Johnny Walker, Tyler Trott, Trace Beyer, Brandon Michael, Michael Hopkins, and Marcello Rufrano all got by to drop her from the lead back to eleventh place in a matter of three laps. The caution came out with 6 laps complete as Dembek spun in turn 1 and collected the car of Walker. Beyer’s car also came to a stop on the apron in the middle of turns 1+2.

Alexandra Fearn took the lead back under green with Robinson slotting into second. Trott was up to third with Ryan Fearn fourth and last week’s winner Michael was up to fifth. Alexandra was starting to pull away from the rest of the field with Trott pulling away from a pack of cars in second. Michael was third with Walker and Rufrano making up the top-5 with 2 laps to go.

Alexandra Fearn led the field to the checkered flag but she was disqualified from the victory in post-race technical inspection due to a ride height violation, making Trott the winner. Michael finished second with Walker, Rufrano, and Hopkins rounding out the top-5.

In the 20-lap Legend Cars feature event, Noah Korner and Teddy Hodgdon took the top two spots at the drop of the green and immediately began to duel for the race lead. Joey Ternullo, Jr., was third with Brett Crowther fourth and Steven Chapman fifth.

At the halfway point, Korner and Hodgdon were still glued to each other out front with Ternullo in third and followed by Crowther and Chapman. Hodgdon followed in Korner’s tire tracks, but he was unable to make a pass as Korner took his second consecutive checkered flag.
