George Ramos Jr. “Pineapple 50” for Late Models to pay $1200-to-win this Saturday at Mahoning Valley Speedway

This coming Saturday, July 2 at 6:00 pm, Mahoning Valley Speedway presents the 5th Annual George Ramos Jr. “Pineapple 50” for Late Models. The feature race will award the winner $1200.

The Pineapple 50 is run in honor of the late George Ramos Jr., who passed away in 2012. Ramos was a racer who competed at Mahoning Valley and Dorney Park Speedways, but he is most remembered as a huge supporter of both tracks as a car owner.

Thanks to the effort of his son, George Ramos III, who is races in the Street Stock division at Mahoning and ran Late Models and Modifieds over the years, along with Mahoning promoter Floyd Santee, each year since his untimely passing there has been a 50 lap feature run in his honor.

Appropriately it is with the Late Model division which Ramos Jr., always fielded. His first win as an owner actually was with Santee at Dorney Park. Popular Bob Landis won his career first race with Ramos. Other drivers who have been in the seat include Chris Hahn, Jimmy Roth, Charlie Brinkman, Wayne Kerstetter, Hal Resh, Bill Schaefer, Ed Hunsberger, Keith Kidd, Mike Kemmerer and of course George III.

Paul Koehler Jr., was last year’s winner which helped in his bid for a fourth career class championship. He also won the first Pineapple 50 in ’12. In-between the event was won by Earl Paules.

Heading into this year’s edition Mike Sweeney, who has come close in all previous events, leads the points and is focusing on making this race his fourth win of the year at Mahoning Valley.

Also on the card will be Modifieds, Street Stock, Dirt Mods, Pro 4s and Hobby Stocks. At intermission Kids Big Wheel races take place.

Grandstands open at 4:00 pm. Warm-ups will get underway at 4:00. Pit gates will open at 11:30 am for early paid practice which gets underway at 12:30. Adult front gate admission is $18. There is a $2 discount for students, seniors 65+ and active Military. Pits are $30 for members and $40 for non-members. Racing begins at 6:00.
