All regular track classes + Micro Stocks on tap for July 9

The 2016 season at Lehighton’s Mahoning Valley Speedway is at the midway point of the season and after 10 events run (there have been 3 rainouts), the competition across the six regular classes remains tight and now looking to this week’s action, Saturday, July 9, it is becoming clear as to how the points are shaping up for those making their bid at respective class titles.

The line-up for Saturday will be regular heats and features for the Modifieds, Late Models, Street Stocks, Dirt Mods, Pro 4s and Hobby Stocks plus the touring Micro Stocks join the slate.

At intermission Kids Box Car Races will take place which has become quite entertaining for both the kids and fans.

Race time is 6:00 pm. Grandstands open at 4:00 pm. Warm-ups will get underway at 4:00. Pit gates will open at 11:30 am for early paid practice which gets underway at 12:30. Adult front gate admission is $12. There is a $2 discount for students, seniors 65+ and active Military.

Heading into the start of the second half of the season Eric Beers leads the Modified standings. He has 5 wins and 11 of 12 top-5 finishes. In close chase is Austin Kochenash who has a run of top-3s over the past month including a feature win two weeks ago. Defending champion Earl Paules is third with Kris Graver and Don Wagner fourth and fifth respectively.

Mike Sweeney has been atop the Late Model standings since week one. Fresh off his win in the “Pineapple 50”, Sweeney brings a class leading 4 wins to start the second half and 10 straight top 5s. And, although that is impressive, reigning champion Paul Koehler Jr., is right on his heels as well as Frankie Althouse and Jeremy Miller.

The Street Stocks show Jon Moser currently leading the points but is has been a rubber match at the top between him and ’15 titlist Zach Graver. Only nine point separate the two and Jason Kuhn is in their shadows as well.

Ricky Yetter is holding the lead in points with the Dirt Mods, thanks largely to three straight wins and a slew of top-5s over the past month. But, he can’t take any time to relax as Billy Lasko and Aleia Giesler remain hot on his tail.

Likewise in the Pro 4s where Bobby Kibler Jr., has been number one throughout the season but closing fast is four time winner Josh Scherer and last year’s champ Cody Kohler.

The Hobby Stocks have a great battle ongoing. Cody Geist, who is the defending champion, sits in the top spot over his brother and last week’s winner, Shayne Geist, by just seven points. And taking into consideration that there has been a record tying 9 different winners in 10 races, the rest of the top-10 is keeping up on to pace with the Geist brothers.

It’s all made for great racing thus far and undoubtedly just as much yet to come.
