This season, Evergreen Raceway has dealt with numerous obstacles, including the weather. Unfortunately, due to the expected heat index this Sunday and like many other tracks in the area, Evergreen management has decided to cancel their show on Sunday, July 24.

The cancellation is more of a liability issue and not only for the drivers, who are strapped into cars where the temperature is well over a hundred degrees. It’s also for the fans, who sit in the sun for hours to watch their favorite drivers compete.

Despite the heat, the ongoing improvements to the facility haven’t slowed. More sections of the grandstands are being covered and portions of the grounds are being professionally landscaped. If time and weather permits, victory lane will be repaved as well.

The speedway’s “Christmas in July” event will now take place on Sunday, July 31. Not only will Santa be present, but he will have items for the children at the speedway, courtesy of track fans, drivers, teams and officials. Those interested in helping out can still bring a wrapped gift to the speedway office. Drop boxes will also be at the track on both the grandstand and pit side for drop off. Back to school items, such as pencils, erasers, crayons, notebooks, etc. are also welcome.

Aside from Santa Claus being at Evergreen that day, there will also be a bouncy house and swings for the kids, plus activities are being planned for the afternoon.

The Pro Stocks have been removed from the schedule on July 31st and the Dirt Modifieds will take their place. The Street Stocks, Factory Stocks and Four Cylinders will also be in action. Grandstand admission is just $8. Children 10 years of age and younger are admitted for free with a paying adult.

The pit gate will swing open at 10:30 AM and the pit entrance fee is $30 with a pit license or $40 without. Practice will kick off at 12:30 PM and heat races will begin at 2 PM. The grandstand gates will open at noon.

Evergreen Raceway is located minutes from Hazleton, PA, in between routes 93 and 309.
