Call Before You Dig 811 Challenge Enters Final Night to Accumulate Points and Determine Winners

Since the green flag was unfurled on the season opening NAPA Spring Sizzler back in April, drivers at Stafford Motor Speedway have been competing for an $811 piece of a $4,055 pie from the Call Before You Dig 811 Challenge. The CBYD 811 Challenge is open to drivers from each of Stafford’s five NASCAR Whelen All-American Series divisions and a special points system is used to determine the five drivers who will each receive an $811 bonus.

Drivers earn 100 points for a victory, and each subsequent position is worth 5 points less. The CBYD 811 Challenge began at the NAPA Spring Sizzler and the five lucky winners will be determined at the conclusion of the August 5 feature events and the winners will receive their reward on Aug. 12 in recognition of 811 day, which is August 11. The goal is to be one of five drivers who comes the closest to accumulating 811 points without going over. As the CBYD 811 Challenge enters its final night of on track competition for the 2016 season, several drivers have already exceeded the 811 point threshold and several more are on the brink of going over.

“The CBYD 811 Challenge is significant to Call Before You Dig because it helps us promote not only the fact that August 11 is 811 Day, the 811 number for folks to call to practice safe digging practices,” said Derek Brown, Vice President of Damage Prevention and Education for Call Before You Dig. “811 Day is recognized nationally and the 811 Challenge is a great tool for us to help promote that day. The 811 Challenge has also helped us raise awareness of the new e-ticketing system that we have available at cbyd.com. We’re happy that we could include all five NASCAR Whelen All-American Series divisions for participation in the 811 Challenge and we’ll be waiting with great anticipation to see who the five drivers getting the $811 bonus will be this season.”

August 11th or 8/11, will serve as a natural reminder for residents to call 811 prior to any digging project to have underground utility lines marked to avoid unintentionally hitting them. Call Before You Dig is a non-profit organization comprised of all public utility companies and municipalities within Connecticut. CBYD is a free service that provides homeowners and professional excavators with a toll free call by dialing 8-1-1 for locating and marking underground facilities by its members. Calling CBYD before you dig is the law in Connecticut.

When calling 811, the federally-mandated national "Call Before You Dig" number, homeowners are connected

to the local CBYD call center in Hamden, CT which notifies the appropriate utility companies of their intent to dig. Professional locators are then sent to the requested digging site to mark the approximate locations of underground lines with flags or spray paint. Call Before You Dig, Inc. requires a call 2 full working days before the planned project start date.
