Friday night at Bowman Gray Stadium may have brought frustration for Burt Myers – but redemption came on Saturday.
The Walnut Cove resident took the checkered in Saturday’s Strutmasters.com 199 for the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour. It was a welcome change from Friday night’s second-place finish after being passed by rival Tim
Brown.
“After last night, I was pretty disappointed - couldn’t blame anybody but myself,” said Burt Myers. “It doesn’t matter how bad the storm is if God’s in the boat with you. And blue skies shine tonight.”
Pole starter Kyle Ebersole of Hummelstown, PA shot out to the initial lead and stayed there for 71 laps. Danny Bohn of Freehold, NJ pressured his bumper and slipped to the inside to make a pass on lap 72. Bohn then soared
forward at the head of the pack and seemed the man to beat.
After biding his time, Ebersole began to battle back on lap 148 to retake the lead. He was able to briefly take over the top spot, but Bohn was ready to dial up the aggression. Ebersole and Bohn collided on a restart on lap 162,
sending both of them veering and allowing Burt Myers to dash into the lead.
“One went this way, one went another way – and I saw daylight,” said Burt Myers. Myers then held off his brother Jason Myers to claim the victory. “To come home first and second in our home track is definitely a feather in our cap
this year.”
The Yates Grading & Paving Sportsman Series had a wild 100-lapper on Saturday. John Holleman of Winston-Salem grabbed the lead away from Zack Clifton of Walkertown and held on for nearly 80 laps. But during a final caution
flag with only two laps to go, Michael Adams of Yadkinville turned on the heat.
Adams gave a good tap to the rear bumper of Holleman and then slipped inside to make a pass for the lead. “I gave him a little shot going in - didn’t want to turn him,” said Adams. “Just gave him just enough to get up
underneath him, and then we had a good race to the checkered.”
After post-race technical inspection, John Holleman, Billy Gregg of Lexington, and Tony Black of Winston-Salem were disqualified – making the second place finisher Tommy Neal of Walkertown.
In the Q104.1 New Country Street Stock Series, Jamie Byrd of Mount Airy brought home the win. Jasper Sumner of Trinity finished second.
