Membrino, Arute, Walker, Bailey, & Ouellette Score Fall Final Saturday Feature Victories At Stafford Speedway
Membrino, Provost, & Walker Clinch Track Championships

Stafford Motor Speedway kicked off its final race event of the 2015 season with feature events for its SK Light, Limited Late Model, and DARE Stock divisions, as well as feature events for the TQ Midgets and Mr. Rooter Truck Series as part of the Saturday NAPA Auto Parts Fall Final Weekend festivities. Taking feature wins were Tony Membrino, Jr. in the SK Light feature, Paul Arute in the Ltd. Late Model feature, Johnny Walker in the DARE Stock feature, Joey Bailey in the TQ Midget feature, and Bert Ouellette in the Mr. Rooter Truck Series feature. Membrino and Walker’s feature wins both saw them clinch the track championships and Duane Provost was also crowned a track champion in the Limited Late Model division with a third place finish.

In the 20-lap SK Light Modified feature, Ted Cain took the lead at the green with Keith Caruso and Joey Ferrigno behind him. Vinny Anglace was fourth in the early going with Ryan Charland in fifth and Jay Goff in sixth. Caruso was starting to apply pressure to Cain for the lead on lap-3 and he and Ferrigno were side by side for second on lap-4. Carlos Gray came to a stop in turns 3+4 to bring the caution out with 4 laps complete just as the top-4 cars were side by side in rows of two like a pace lap.

Caruso didn’t come up to speed on the restart which bottlenecked the outside groove. Cain spun in turn 2 and collected several cars to bring the caution out before a lap could be completed. Ferrigno was now the leader for the restart with Jay Goff to his outside and Tony Membrino, Jr. and Daniel Wesson making up the second row.

Ferrigno powered into the lead with Membrino moving quickly into second. Membrino and Ferrigno were dueling side by side for the lead with Membrino able to get the lead at stripe by inches. Membrino finally got clear to the lead on lap-11 with Wesson in third, Brett Gonyaw up to fourth, and Goff was fifth. The caution came back out with 15 laps complete for Goff, who spun coming out of turn 4.

Ferrigno tried to make a run to Membrino’s inside on the restart, but Membrino shut the door to remain the leader. Ferrigno and Wesson were now side by side for second with Gonyaw in fourth and fifth was a side by side duel between David Arute and Joe Graf, Jr.

Wesson and Gonyaw got by Ferrigno to move into second and third on the final lap but no one could catch Membrino as he locked up his second career SK Light championship in grand style. Wesson finished second with Gonyaw, Arute, and Ferrigno rounding out the top-5.

In the 20-lap Limited Late Model feature, the race started with Cliff Saunders spinning on the backstretch with the car of Bryan Narducci climbing the car of Saunders and turning over on its roof to bring the caution and red flags out immediately with 0 laps complete.

David Tefft and R.J. Surdell brought the field back to green and they ran side by side for the first lap before Tefft got the lead on lap-2. As they came to the line to complete lap-2, Surdell’s car was sideways and as he fought to get the car back under control, he made contact with Al Saunders which sent Surdell spinning and damaged Saunders’ car enough that he had to retire from the race and brought the caution out.

Back under green Tefft and Matt Clement were now side by side for the lead with Tefft getting clear on lap-4. Frank L’Etoile, Jr. was on the charge and he took over second on lap-4 with Paul Arute following right behind him into third as Clement fell back to sixth as Duane Provost moved into fourth and Jeremy Lavoie took fifth.

Arute made a move to the inside of L’Etoile for second on lap-10 and he was able to take the spot by a nose at the line. Arute got clear of L’Etoile on lap-11 with Provost getting by L’Etoile for third on lap-12 as Tefft continued to set the pace.

With 2 laps to go, Arute had caught up to Tefft and he made the pass for the lead in turn 2. Arute led TEfft back to the checkered flag to pick up his fifth win of the 2016 season. Provost finished third, which was good enough to make him the 2016 Ltd. Late Model track champion. L’Etoile finished fourth with Lavoie rounding out the top-5.

In the 15-lap DARE Stock feature, Nicole Chambrello powered into the lead at the green with Vince Gambacorta in second. Michael Hopkins was third but he got loose on lap-2 and he fell back to fifth as Trace Beyer and Johnny Walker moved up to third and fourth.

Beyer took second from Gambacorta on lap-5, Walker movmed into third, and Hopkins took fourth as Gambacorta fell back to fifth. Beyer made a move to the inside of Chambrello to take over the lead on lap-6. Walker followed him through and moved into second with Hopkins settling into fourth behind Chambrello with Alexandra Fearn in fifth. The caution came out with 8 laps complete for a spin coming out of turn 4 by Dan Dembek.

Beyer took the lead on the restart but Walker took the lead from him on lap-10. Alexandra Fearn was up to third behind the two leaders with her brother Ryan Fearn behind her in fourth and Dave Secore was up to fifth. Walker led the field to the checkered flag to pick up his second win of the season and the DARE Stock track championship in the process. Beyer finished second with Alexandra Fearn, Ryan Fearn, and Secore rounding out the top-5.

In the 30-lap TQ Midget feature, Joey Bailey took the lead at the green while Ted Christopher got shuffled to the high side and fell from fourth back to seventh. Matt Janisch moved into second behind Bailey with Geoff Sutton and Bryan Tidman making up the top-4. Christopher recovered quickly and was back up to fifth when the caution came out for Sutton, who spun in turn 2.

Bailey and Janisch pushed each other up the track on the restart, allowing Christopher to power into the lead. Tidman moved up to second with Chris Hirt in third as Janisch and Bailey fell back to fourth and fifth. The caution came back out with 9 laps complete for the stalled car of Chris Hurt in turn 4.

Christopher led the field back to green but Janisch made a power move going into turn 1 to move from fourth up to second. Janisch then made a move to Christopher’s inside in turn 3 and they touched with Christopher spinning to bring the caution out.

Sutton was the new leader back under green with Janisch up to second after driving off track on the previous restart attempt. Bailey was third with Tidman fourth and Mike Glaser in fifth. Janisch was working Sutton over but was unable to get past. Janisch’s perseverance paid off as he was able to make a move coming out of turn 4 on lap-19 to move into the lead. Sutton spun in turn 2 to bring the caution out with 21 laps complete.

Bailey made a power move on the restart to take over the lead with Janisch moving in to second. Tidman was third but Sutton got back by Tidman on lap-24. With 4 laps to go, it was Bailey in the lead followed by Janisch, Tidman, Sutton, and Glaser. Bailey took the checkered flag with Janisch, Tidman, Sutton, and Glaser rounding out the top-5.

In the 25-lap Mr. Rooter Truck Series feature, Dan Turbush led the field to the green with Bert Ouellette quickly moving into second. Corey Coates was third in the running order with Duane Knoll nad Gerald Giordano, Jr. making up the top-5.

Ouellette had to track down Turbush and with 10 laps complete he was right on Turbush’s tailgate. Coates and Knoll were locked in a tight duel for third with Allen Coates now fifth all by himself on the track. Ouellette was right behind Turbush as they began to navigate lapped traffic on lap-12. Ouellette could get close to Turbush, but didn’t have enough momentum built up to make a pass.

Turbush got loose in turn 2 as he was putting a lap on Shayne Young and Ouellette look to capitalize on that slip but Young spun to bring the caution out with 21 laps complete.

Ouellette briefly had the lead on the restart but Turbush came back strong at the line to maintain the lead. Ouellette dove to the inside of Turbush on lap-23 in turn 4 and the two trucks rubbed with Turbush sliding up the track and Ouellette moving into the lead. Ouellette led the field to the checkered flag for his second win of the season at Stafford. Turbush finished second with Coates, Josh Stringer, and Dave Koenig rounding out the top-5.
