Owen, Wray, & Korner Score NAPA Fall Final Wins At Stafford Speedway;
Fearn & Korner Clinch Track Championships

Stafford Motor Speedway concluded its 2014 NASCAR racing season with feature events for the SK Modified®, Late Model, and Legend Cars divisions as part of its NAPA Auto Parts Fall Final Weekend. Taking down feature wins were Todd Owen in the SK Modified® feature, Michael Wray in the Late Model feature, and Noah Korner in the Legend cars feature. Tom Fearn wrapped up the Late Model track championship with a second place finish and Korner became the Legend Cars track champion with his victory.

In the 40-lap SK Modified® feature, Matt Galko took the lead at the green with Mike Christopher, Jr. right behind him in second. Ronnie Williams and Todd Owen were side by side for third with Williams getting clear of Owen and then taking second from Christopher, Jr. on lap-3.

Williams continued his charge as he took the lead from Galko on lap-5. Galko was able to hang with Williams for a lap in the outside groove before Williams got clear on lap-8. Christopher, Jr. and Galko were side by side for second before the red and caution flags came out with 9 laps complete for spins into the turn 1 wall by Stephen Kopcik and Chris Jones.

Williams took the lead back under green with Christopher, Jr. in second, Owen in third, Keith Rocco fourth, and Galko in fifth. Christopher, Jr. took the lead from Williams on lap-6 and opened the door for Owen, Rocco and Galko to all follow him through. Ted Christopher was now alongside Williams for fifth but Williams was able to fend off his challenge. The caution came out with 16 laps complete as Bo Gunning and Jeff Gallup got into the frontstretch wall.

Christopher, Jr. took the lead with Rocco and Owen side by side for second with Ted Christopher and Williams behind them. The field could only complete one lap before the caution came back out for spins on the backstretch for Justin Gaydosh, Jeff Baral, Rowan Pennink, and Josh Wood.

Christopher, Jr. and Owen were side by side for the lead with Rocco going 3-wide for the lead at the line. Owen emerged with the lead with Rocco in second and Christopher, Jr. in third as they hit the stripe for the halfway mark of the race. Williams got around Christopher, Jr. for third on lap-22 with Ted Christopher now behind his nephew in fifth place.

Rocco was all over Owen’s bumper for the lead but Owen was able to fend off his challenges. Christopher, Jr. went by Williams for third on lap-27 with Ted Christopher following him through. D.J. Burnham got loose and collected Dan Avery in turn 3 to bring the caution out with 27 laps complete.

Owen took the lead on the restart with Christopher, Jr. and Rocco fighting hard side by side for second. Glen Reen was up to fourth with Ted Christopher in fifth. Christopher, Jr. got clear of Rocco into second on lap-31 but Rocco was searching high and low for a way to get back past. This allowed Owen to pull away slightly while Reen was still leading Ted Christopher in fourth and fifth.

Owen led Christopher, Jr. to the flag for his second win of the 2016 season. Rocco finished third with Reen and Ted Christopher rounding out the top-5.

In the 30-lap Late Model feature, Rich Hammann fought off a challenge from Wayne Coury, Jr. to take the lead on the opening lap. Joel Monahan was third with Michael Wray and Tom Butler behind him. Wray went by Monahan on lap-3 to take over third while Butler and Fearn both got past Monahan on lap-4 to move into fourth and fifth and kick Monahan back to sixth.

Wray powered his way into the lead on lap-6 witih Coury, Butler, and Fearn all following him through as Hammann fell back to fifth place, just in front of Josh Wood. Butler made a move to the inside of Coury on lap-9 to move into second and he opened the door for Fearn, Wood, and Kevin Gambacorta to all follow him through as Coury fell back to fifth. Scot Cook spun on the backstretch at the entrance to turn 3 to bring the caution out with 9 laps complete.

Wray took the lead on the restart with Butler, Fearn, Wood, and Gambacorta lined up behind him. Glen Reen spun in turn 3 and hit the wall to bring the caution out before a lap could be completed.

Wray again took the lead with Butler slotting into second behind him. Fearn was third but he quickly made a move to take over second from Butler on lap-11. Butler was able to slide into third with Coury and Wood making up the top-5. Wood made a move around Coury for fourth with Gambacorta following him through to drop Coury back to sixth on lap-14 as Wray had stretched out the lead over Fearn and the rest of the pack. Hammann and Cook spun coming out of turn 4 to bring the caution out with 20-laps complete.

Wray took the lead with Wood moving up to second. Fearn took third with Butler and Gambacorta making up the top-5. Michael Bennett got around Gambacorta for fifth place on lap-22 as Wray started to stretch out the lead over Wood. The caution came back out with 23 laps complete as Tyler Leary came to a stop against the turn 3 wall.

Wray took the lead with Fearn and Wood going side by side for second. Fearn got clear to second at the line and Wood settled into third with Coury and Bennett lined up behind him. Gambacorta got around Bennett to take over fifth place on lap-27 as Wray quickly began to pull away from Fearn. Wray took the checkered flag for his second win of the 2016 season. FEArn finished second, which clinched the 2016 Late Model track championship. Wood finished third with Coury and Gambacorta rounding out the top-5.

In the 20-lap Legend Cars feature, Steve Chapman took the lead at the green but the caution came out for a spin in turn 1 by Andrew Quealy. Noah Korner took over the lead on the restart with Chapman in second. Teddy Hodgdon was third with Joey Ternullo, Jr. fourth and Glenn Korner in fifth.

Hodgdon took second from Chapman and he was all over the back bumper of Korner on lap-7 looking to take the lead. Hodgdon made his move to take the lead from Korner on lap-8 while Chapman was right behind Korner in a 3-car fight for the lead.

As Hodgdon was coming around to put a second lap on Quealy, they touched and Hodgdon’s momentum was slowed. Hodgdon then got blocked in behind Quealy and Korner took over the lead on lap-18 before the caution came out when Hodgdon made contact with Quealy and Quealy spun.

Noah Korner took the lead on the restart with Chapman behind him in second. Hodgdon got back to third but it was all Korner at the checkered flag. Korner’s victory also made him the 2016 Legend Cars track champion. Chapman finished second with Hodgdon, Ternullo, and Glenn Korner rounded out the top-5.
