Return of ISMA Supermodifieds & four Modified races highlight 16-race schedule

With the positive aura of a successful 2016 season, Lancaster National Speedway & Dragway officials unveiled the 2017 Stock Car schedule on Saturday with 16 events planned for the 59th season of racing at the Western New York 1/2-mile oval.

Building on a tradition that started in 2015, the theme for the 2017 season will be "Stability & Loyalty" letting teams know the track will remain committed to what has been building in recent times. While other facilities in the area dropped divisions from its weekly program and add new add ones at random, Lancaster will continue to support the drivers and teams that have stuck with them through recent years.

The only significant change will be an increase of $1 for adult admission for regular weekly season Stock Car events from $12 to $13 in 2017. The admission fee of $8 for Students ages 12 to 17 will remain, as will children 11-years old and under admitted for free for weekly-regular events.

The Sunoco Sportsman, Advance Auto Parts Street Stocks and 4-Cylinders will return as Lancaster's home track divisions competing for the coveted track championships and a points fund payout of $22,000 at the 2016 banquet. All three divisions had a marked increase in support last season as the stock car program earned its biggest weekly car counts in several years.

The 2017 Stock Car season will kick off on Saturday, April 22 at 2 p.m. with the Queen City Clash, featuring all three weekly divisions plus the first, of four, visits from the NYPA TQ Midgets. The early season Saturday afternoon shows continue on April 29 when the ground pounding Race of Champions Modified Series takes to the track for a 75-lap event, followed by X-Press Signs Late Model Mania on May 7.

Saturday night 6:30 p.m. racing begins on May 13 when the New York Super Stock Series makes its lone stop at Lancaster for a 50-lap race. The following week of Saturday, May 20 is Ladies Night with $5 general admission for women plus a 4-Cylinder Powder Puff race open to any female that doesn't have previous points- racing experience.

Lancaster National Speedway is treating its fans to Double Wing Night on Saturday, June 3 with the return of International Supermodified Association (ISMA) and the winged Can-Am TQ Midgets. The ISMA Supermodifieds are back by popular demand for the first time since 2003, and will be the first Supermodified race at Lancaster since 2009. The raindate for that event is Sunday, June 4.

ISMA held their first-ever race at Lancaster on July 3, 1974 with Ohio driver Todd Gibson winning the inaugural event. Some of the biggest names in Supermodified racing have won at Lancaster in the years that followed; including Jim Shampine, Bentley Warren, Mike McLaughlin, Doug Heveron, Joe Gosek, Dave McKnight, Russ Wood and Chris Perley.

The Sunoco Sportsman will be in the spotlight for the Joe Reilly Summer Slam 75 presented by A-Verdi Storage Containers on Saturday, June 17 competing for the Joe Reilly Summer Slam Trophy. The prestigious event returned to the schedule last season with Patrick Emerling topping a 26-car field for the victory.

Lancaster will kick off the summer on Thursday, June 29 with the third annual “Ol' Boy Cup 60-lap Tribute to Bill Colton” with the Race of Champions Modified Series. This mid-week event has quickly become a fan favorite the past few years. The RoC Big 10 Super Stocks, Advance Auto Parts Street Stocks and 4-Cylinders will take part in the action that night, as well, with racing set to begin at 7 p.m.

The summer portion of the schedule is filled with several special themed nights, including First Responders Night on July 9, Homecoming and Retro Night on July 16, Autograph and FOAR Score Fan Club Night on July 29, Kids Night on August 12 and Big Rig Night on August 26.

The Kids Choice Street Stock 50 will a have special stipulation as children in attendance will get to decide how many cars will get inverted at the race's halfway point.

The RoC Modifieds are back on August 19 for the most prestigious race on the Lancaster schedule, the 28th annual Tommy Druar/Tony Jankowiak Tribute 110.

The regular season will come to an end on September 9 with Season Championship Night and three track champions being crowned.

Lancaster closes out the stock car season with the 29th annual U.S. Open during the weekend of September 22-24. WNY's Racing Finale continues to grow every year with more race cars, more campers and new memories to be made. The RoC Modified Series will headline the weekend with the U.S. Open 125 on Sunday.
